The ability to enter a hold from another hold sounds not terribly useful. It just saves you the step of selecting the next hold. Unless you propose alternate hold entrances, in which case no, that sounds like a mess.

It would be useful for story only.

Well, it sounds like this might be fun as some type of metagame activity, like marking where your hold is on a map of the Eighth. I don't think I want this to be in a hold because, well, it's just one hold.

So maybe I'm missing something in the descriptions, but how does this differ from 'hub levels', which are used as overworlds in several existing holds already?

If you're talking graph theory, then nothing.

Otherwise, overworld maps give you:

* Travel to a destination with a click instead of having to walk the whole way each time

* Intuitive area layout

* Awesomeness. It's a *map*, not a pile of scrolls and staircases.

Ahha, so it's more of a clickable map than a playable DROD level? That's cool.

Ask yourself: Does Beethro actually have a walk animation? There's your answer.

Ah, but then you'll be able to unlock super-master holds by mastering all holds in a set.

Enough, I personally think that linking holds thing might be taking it a little too far. Furthur complicating the matter is calling a hold set a .hold file. I would even go so far as to say it would be better to just copy levels from other holds to be part of one and the same hold. Going between holds would just be too confusing, and we had more then enough confusion in KDD alone.

Sorry, bad thirteenth level joke. But I am serious about the linking holds thing. It's just not nesessary. Still love the over map concept. I see big things it's future.

No I wasn't talking about creating mazes between holds using entry points. Just allowing an overmap to link to the start of a hold, allowing for overmaps to become a way to organize the holds a bit better. Basically, it would give the option to post a hold file containing nothing but the overmap of links to the parts of a series. Sort of like a playlist.
