As I've said before, I like forum contests that exercise that other side of the brain. With the advent of Flash DROD, we're hopefully going to be getting a fresh, new crowd of players coming around these parts. So, I say, let's put our best face on! Here's one way to do it.

This month's contest is about drawing the Cutest Dungeon Roach Ever. The rules are simple: you can use any tools you like to draw one or more roachies. You can take graphics from the DROD games or make up your own. Draw them in whatever art style you like. Abstract, cubist, anime, 8-bit, postmodern...you name it. You may submit up to three works.

This contest will go from now through next weekend. You have negative 657 weeks, 6 days to get your submissions in! After that, the art show and judging will run for the final week of June.

Judging criteria are completely subjective. People will vote for the Cutest. Roach. Ever.

1st Place wins a prize from the prize pile and 100 rank points. 2nd place wins 50 rank points and three free months of CaravelNet service. 3rd place wins 25 rank points and a free month of CaravelNet service.

To get everyone started, here are some sample drawings my daughter and I made one day.

The first is a mommy and baby roach. The second is a roach getting attacked by a dinosaur ninja. The third is grown-up roachies talking, and the kid roach wants some ice cream. Awwww! Aren't those simply the cutest roaches EVER!

Great! Oh, no, I mean, "You can do it!"

Anyway, this is not a skills contest. Anyone can win. Honestly, if someone wants to spend more than a week drawing a dungeon roach, then, uh...they're probably already awesome enough to win this contest by taking a lot less time than that. If not, then...well, more than a week probably won't make much difference.

I assume two things from the examples given, but I just want to make sure: that there can be more than just the one roach in the picture, and that queen/momma roaches are also allowed.

Yes. You could even make up your own roach variant if you like.

As there's already been some confusion, perhaps we should put the link to the submissions thread in the first post. It would be quicker and easier to post it with all the other contest details, I would think.

I think it might be a good idea for all contests, actually, to keep as much important information as possible in the main contest post. Quicker and more convenient for everyone.

Even though my drawing skills are those of a 1 year old, I tried doodling some things and submitted the ones I thought were acceptable.

Unexpectedly, had a lot of fun with it.

I've now submitted all three of my entries. As someone who used to draw all the time when I was little (until having a computer changed that), I didn't want to miss the opportunity to enter a drawing contest.

As much as I want to be a part of this contest, I simply haven't had the time. I have space for my Wacom tablet now, but the drivers need to be updated, and my art process is very slow anyway.
