Hmmm. Is it OK if we spam this thread with language-specific discussions, or should we take it to the skellpad?

Brain = Hirn
Eighth = Achtel
Evil Eye = Stierauge works for me. (Heh, how'bout "
Bullauge"
?
)
Force Arrow = Richtungspfeil is a bit long, but seems the best choice.
Hold = Feste. My first association with "
Bau"
is the hole dug by a fox or badger.
Orb = Schaltkugel, maybe? I don't like "
crystal"
in the name for something designed to be whacked with a really big sword.
Roach = Schabe
Roach Queen = Schabenkönigin
Serpent = Panzerschlange is good for suggesting "
swordproof"
, I guess. No strong preference.
Spider = Spinne
Tar = Teer
Tar Baby = Teerbaby
Tar Mother = Teermutter. Obvious, but I really like the parallel to "
Essigmutter"
.
Trapdoor = Falltür
Wraithwing = Fledergeist. I hear too much Flugheuschrecke in "
Schreckschwinge"
. (Grottenmotte was never meant seriously, btw. It belongs in a universe where rattlesnakes are called Ratternattern, and the golem-pile-eating adders Schotterottern.)
Delver = Absteiger
Neather = "
der Darunter"
is quite close in sense to the English, and reasonably enigmatic.
Smitemaster = Hiebmeister
Master Door = Meistertür. Translate "
master"
parallel to the usage in "
smitemaster"
, whose professional pride requires him to completely clear every room.
Exterminator = Kammerjäger. One of the most bestest words in the German language, and clearly the one to use here as far as I'm concerned.
Dungeon exterminator = ... not sure. Verlies-Kammerjäger? Dunkelkammerjäger?
Potion = Trank
Mimic = Äffer (to mimic 'nachäffen')
Level = Stockwerk (very profane, everydayish; but it's Beethro's day job after all.) Or maybe Niveau. Level is too game-oriented, and doesn't suit in-world text.
Room = Raum
Dungeon = Verlies(e)
Backswiping = Durchgangshieb (reminds me of the
en passant chess move, and gives off a kind of smitemaster's technical vocabulary vibe)
Really big sword = echt grosses Schwert
multi-level dungeon = mehrstöckige Verliese
Mastery Area = Meisterzone
Mastery Level = Meisterlevel (calling it a level seems fine in this meta-ish context).
post-master (as in "
post-mastering the hold"
) = I'm not sure what that even means, and very open to suggestions.
Achievement = ... "
Spieleerfolge"
sounds rubbish, probably the wiki editor's ad-hoc translation of "
game scores"
or "
game achievements"
. Any Germans with some kind of console? Otherwise we could just go with "
Trophäen"
, which another system seems to use.
