Sometimes I have a hard time seeing where precisely my smelling radius is.

So I say, put a border around it!

That's a little easier to see, don't you think?

Not really, no - not if the tiles you're walking along already have a black border of their own, like in your image...

I guess it'd be more noticeable if the border was two pixels wide.

I agree with you that I'd like the area to be easier to see, but it doesn't look like your picture helps much.

What about a yellow or red border to really stand out?

But that would be so garish. :(

Tried red and yellow. Didn't like them. How about purple, like the potion itself?

I would call that more of a pink. Either way, that color gives me a headache. I'm seriously not joking.

I like it.

I suggest this could be toggled in the Settings screen.

Personally, I never really noticed any trouble making out the radius. But wouldn't purple show up badly on whichever style it is that has purple walls?

Yeah, I've never had trouble with the range, and I have colour-blindness. It might be a symptom of playing DROD too much not enough.

I suggest experimenting with a slightly thicker and partially transparent border too. It might look better and less distracting for people who don't like the current rather bright color. Alternatively, the smelling radius could be shaded with a gradient, getting a little darker as it gets farther from Beethro and darkest at its edge.

Having just floated some suggestions, I'll add that I don't really have a strong opinion on the matter. Any problems I've ever had with the invisibility potion radius have been fixable with a single press of the undo button, and have mostly been due to me not paying close enough attention. So, I'll let others decide on how it should look.

It's not the potion boundary that annoys me, it's Beethro. Quite a few times (particularly in darker rooms) I've lost track of where he is on the screen. He would be easier to see if he didn't flash, I think that being colourless with a black outline when invisible is sufficient.

How can he be easier to see if he doesn't flash? Movement attracts the eye.

I don't like it because he (Beethro) flashes from 'just about visible' to 'almost invisible where did he go..'. One hold, I can't remember which, used Basalt style, and had both invisibility and decoy potions, and that was very hard to play because of this.
