While I was looking through the FAQ this morning to see how many more rank points I need until I become a Master Delver I noticed this:

[*I]italics[*/I]
[*b]bold[*/b]
[*u]underline[*/u]
[*secret]text that needs to be highlighted to read it[*/secret]
[*img]URL of an image[*/img]
[*url=URL of the link]Link text[*/url] (to send an e-mail, put mailto:email address)
[*quote]a quote[*/quote]
[*code]writes it out EXACTLY as written[*/code]
[*size=(-2 to +2)]differently sized text[*/size]
[*color=colour to use]coloured text[*/color]

Now while this all seems fine, notice this:

[*secret]text that needs to be highlighted to read it[*/secret]

Now by my reckoning it should be like this:

[*secret]text that will be hidden by a blue box[*/secret]
[*SECRET]test that needs to be highlighted to read it[*/SECRET]

So, what i'm asking is, can it please be changed so that newcomers who read the FAQ won't get the different secret tags muddled up?

Well, the bit that says 'highlight to read' could be changed, but nobody should ever get them mixed up, as the button above the message box uses the correct lowercase format, as does the tag in the FAQ. Nobody should ever be using an uppercase format; it was only in use a long time ago and was replaced by the much more user-friendly click-to-reveal format.

Yes, but the people who prefer the highlight to reveal way are annoying. Seriously, why would anyone prefer that way? It just inconveniences other people.

I support of putting it into the FAQ.

Since so many people have asked about the SECRET tag it's probably easier to include the question itself into the FAQ (not the tag itself, mind).

Sure, it's not the brightest question, but most questions in the FAQ aren't either.

Naturally, the answer should be well-written, something like "Use it with discretion, since Schik announced that he might remove that tag in the future."

That is a surprisingly nice combination. The secret tag not stretching across the entire screen, and all.

Wow, the not-stretch-across-the-screen thing really is quite nice, isn't it? (It's nesting things in the other direction that's merely annoying.) Though personally what I'd really like is secret tags that stay inline, so that if I just want to hide one word in my sentence, like , the paragraph doesn't look stupid.

(That happens a lot, too, like when you want to say "the trick to 1N1E was killing the adder first, which took me ages to realize" and really only want those four words in red to be secreted.)

Clearly the solution is to have a new tag, [sekrit][/sekrit], that does this.

After some experimentation, I've learned that broken SECRET tags do terrible things. Play around with some previews of your own.

He mismatched his open and close tags in some way or another, which proceeded to affect the rest of his post, including things like the below-the-post bar of icons. You'll know it if you do it (but don't do it, and fix it if you do it by accident, which is unlikely).

We had fun some time ago doing just that. The results of using the older tags in various combinations were quite amusing.

Yeah, it's not all that fantastic, just very annoying. On some forums behavior like that is enough to be a ban-able offense. (well, if your a repeat offender obviously)
