I've checked and I don't think that this has been suggested before.

The non-orthogonal square is simply a floortile that can only be stepped on from a diagonaly angle. This is simply the opposite of the ortho-square. I'm sure that there is a fancy math-name for this, but I'm no genious so I wouldn't know.
I'm sure that this brings plenty of puzzling-potential.

I believe you're thinking of "diagonal", the opposite of "orthogonal".
"Diasquares" does sound stupid, though.
