In all the newer holds where they have options to change lighting to such an extent that you can't see what is in certain areas. I think that there should be a function that you can turn on that gives light to the area. I think that the cursor would give light over the room. So, if you could make a five-by-five area light up around the mouse if you click, or something like that. This way the atmosphere would be preserved and nothing would be hidden from the player.

I think that the pointer should just glow and illuminate everything around it. This is a great idea!

I agree - why not make the mouse pointer glow all the time, like in the main menu? Just mouse around and have a look, no clicking required...

The changes to lighting Mr. Imer made in the last build or two make it sound like it would be feasible...

np: Blamstrain - On Future (Lowblow)

I don't think I'd want it on all the time. In fact, I'm not sure I even want this at all - I don't agree that it wouldn't destroy atmosphere. I think we just need to heap more abuse on architects who abuse darkness.

Yes, the new code now makes clicking a tile to lighten the surrounding area possible. However, in-game lighting is more computationally intensive than on the main menu because it involves a full-blown 3D raytracer (well, shadow-tracer, anyway), so I don't think dragging the cursor around to automatically move a light source would look good at all. I'll look into the original idea though.

In that case, could it be combined with this idea and just made into a way to brighten the whole room temporarily rather than adding a light source at a particular point? In other words, mess with the lighting rather than toggle alpha blending completely.
