So, this is the second rock giant bug I found today. Basically, when briar being fed from a root diagonally across a pit (through using a platform) kills a rock giant, it is silent. One exception to this is when the giant is standing partially or entirely on a platform, in which case the appropriate sound plays as usual. The attached hold and demos demonstrate this.

Thanks for the bug report, hold file and demos. This bug has nothing to do with pits or platforms. You'll notice that when any briar kills a rock giant, no sound is made. I've fixed this for build 58. (In your second demonstration, I'll point out it's not the rock giant on a platform making the die sound, but the broken off NE rock golem being smashed by briars on the same turn making the sound.)
