So, I've been thinking for a while that I'd like to make a DROD engine for Zen Puzzle Garden - and, this evening, I did. It's now finished! Please feel free to submit some levels!

This is frustrating. Mimic shouldn't wait after every move, i think. And where's diagonal moves?

EDIT: I didn't know what's Zen before this.

Zen Puzzle Garden doesn't *have* diagonal moves, Vike. You really ought to go try the real thing before you complain. The game is similar in nature to a giant field of trapdoors with ortho-squares on top of them and a red door to open... and no way to turn without running into anything. :D

Hmm. If someone can tell me what version of DROD that was made in so that I know if I can run the hold or not, I'll take a peek and see what's up.

Hmm... I'm thinking of making an "improved" version of this, perhaps with pit-stopping and cutscenes-per-move?
Seems like a good idea to me.

-Insane

EDIT: And voilą!

Pros:
- Cut-scenes make you not have to press Wait.
- You can bump an object and still regain control afterwards.
- The field can be any size.
- The NPCs wait for you to step on a square before executing their orders. (Meh)
- Any TCB element, briars and the like can be combined. (See 2S)

Cons:
- Due to the nature of the anti-stuck, you have to wait X turns after a bump (the time it takes you to cross the field normally) until regaining control. (Did this using timeouts)
- When resizing/moving, 4-5 commands need to be changed, in both NPCs. (Look at code :D)
- Due to the nature of cut-scenes, demos will *hiccup* in cut-scenes. On my machine at least. And normally these things run smoothly.

See attached: Zen II

Attached to the first post is the completed engine! I'm currently working on the easier Spring levels - help would be appreciated for other level sets. Go on! Get creative.

EDIT: Just seen your Zen II, Insane. Very cool! It has the disadvantage of not being highscorable, but the advantage of not having to wait for ages. Plus, Zen gardens have to be sandy!

Yippee - I've made the Spring and Summer level sets (plus a Tutorial)!

See the first post for the updated Hold file.

Please test - I've probably included dozens of bugs and whatnot.

Also, in thw hut, there is a section called level sets (reminds me of subterra). Is this for what other people have created or something like that?

Yep. It'd be great if we could get some submissions of custom levels - they're easy enough to make, just copy & paste one of my levels and change the Trapdoor area as you wish.

Certainly - I think some of my levels take advantage of this already. In any case, I can't see any good reason to change it, so yep, it's fine.

Anyway, first custom level set for zen is made. Feel free to edit it however you want if you don't like it or want to make it fit the seasonal theme. There are four levels in this set but I might make more sets if you want/if I have time.

Nice! Are you done, or would you like to modify it before I add it to the Hut?

Ok, your levels are official. I hope you agree with my difficulty rating of 5 - if not, I'll change it.

I'll update the Hold file when I've finished the Autumn levels.

Neat! I've added the levels for the next update.

By the way, is the intended solution to 3E just to clear the trapdoors and blow the Adder up with a bomb?

I'm halfway through Winter at the moment. After Winter is released, you'll have two weeks to submit any of your level sets.

So come on everyone, get building!

I made a new level set. It features a custom avatar and music. The music is thewaydown aka the volcano theme in AE made by Eric. It also uses zch's amazing bluebricks.

Chaos, I've just been thinking. I do quite like your level sets, but I think they are crossing a certain line into not actually being Zen (especially the second one). I'm sorry, but in their current state, they just wouldn't fit in this Hold - what with differently-scripted Mimics, different player roles of raking NPCs, and oddly-shaped trapdoor areas, these levels would confuse the player and not add much to this Hold. They might fit better in a custom Hold, but they're not Zen. Sorry :~(

(Having said that, I absolutely love some of the ideas, especially tar-cutting with decoys.)

Well, after an unforgivably unprecedented fifteen-month gap, I've *finally* finished the Winter set! Please enjoy unearthing the plethora of bugs I've no doubt included.

If anyone's working on level sets, let me know and I'll wait - if not, I'll submit this in a few days.

It's attached to the first post, like usual.

(It's a kinda unwritten rule that you should generally keep updating the attachment on the first post rather than having lots of versions online at once. Think of the mess!)

Yeah, I think you're right. I'll remove the Custom Sets area. It'd be a real shame to see your levels go to waste though - you must make sure you publish them somewhere! ;)

I'm going to submit this now. The lengthy saga of TCB Zen will finally end...

As for the new winter levels, they portray the winter theme very well, but the first three levels were fairly easy whilst the last few I couldn't solve. Also, I couldn't solve quite a few of the previous levels in other seasons either

Yeah, the levels are quite isolated in that each has its own difficulty curve, but on average each season is slightly trickier than the previous one.
