That's the problem with two different ways of counting.

See that small message icon at the top left corner of your post? Careful observation reveals that the number of your post is "210864". And how is this possible when we're hundreds of posts behind? Simple. Post id's are static, while the number on the main page decreases when posts are deleted.

So yes, the 200'000th post on the forum occurred already. But we can still go for the 200'000th currently existing post on the forum

Depending on the database server used, ids are also usually not guaranteed to be contiguous. Oracle, for example, caches the next 20 ids for a given sequence, so any db restart could result in a gap of up to 20 ids.

How are you going to know who posted the xth message anyway (assuming the poster doesn't announce it)? (hmm.. I guess you could look at the total messages, then look at today's recent posts, and count down.)

Also, do you have access to every single subforum? Or every submission thread? What if it's our old friend admin announcing a new hold? WHAT THEN?!?!?!?
