Well, here is all that currently exists of my first puzzley Hold, School of the Slayerly. It tells the story of Jonathan Blackberry, and is the first part of The Blackberry Saga (a trilogy). And there's custom media (yay!) - many thanks to Vittro for those images.

I have so far completed 13 of the fifteen Lessons. I have done an introduction, an entrance examintion, and the first room of the Final Examination.

Behind the Master Wall is the unstarted

Click here to view the secret text

The Lessons are in no real order of difficulty, and this is a fairly easy Hold (I tried making it difficult, but I just don't seem to have the knack...).

Any comments, suggestions, improvements, etc. are most welcome.

Also: this Hold really does work better if you have Alpha Blending and Environmental Effects on. I do not use them to hide anything (other than the occasional secret room), and I feel they really add to, in particular, Lesson 7.

Ignore all that, it's finished!

Updates:

Version 1.1:
-Added two rooms of Lesson 14
-Removed Force Arrows from Room Entrances
-Fixed staircase bugs in Lessons: 1E
-Fixed potion bug in Lesson 12

Version 1.2:
-Finished Lesson 14
-Done first room of Lesson 15

Version 2.0:
-Finished Lesson 15
-Two of the five Final Examination rooms are now complete

Version 3.0:
-Finished Hold!

Version 3.1:
-Made the Final Exam actually possible...

HA Version
-Hold perfected!

Ok. Will fix that, although I don't think it's major enough to have its own release - I'll include it in the next one.

Bad news: there's lots more Slayer Fighting where that came from... Have updated the file.

Played your hold, and have to agree with your comment about difficulty. But other than that, was an excellent hold. Custom art wasn't too shabby, and room design and speech were neat and professional-looking. I find that the easiest way to difficulty is practice, practice, practice.

I need reviews, please...

Also -

Calling all Slayer Slayers out there, is Final Examination: Quince East possible? I think it should be...

In Entrance Examination 1S1W, you can kill the golems and go back through the room, thus eliminating a major part of the challenge. Also, there are two power tokens there which don't seem to make any sense at all. There are power tokens in many other rooms as well. Something's fishy here.

Lesson 2 2E is impossible as If you drop the trapdoor, you can't kill the eyes, if you kill them while on the trapdoor, the green sister door shuts and blocks you and you you kill them without dropping the trapdoor, the green sister door shuts and you can never drop the red door, and are thus unable to continue.

Something's definitely fishy here...

That explains everything...

But in this case, I found a bug: If you exit Lesson 2 2E to the West, you're stuck, because you can't open the red door anymore.

But you wouldn't need to, it's a linear Hold.

No, you don't need to. But if you do, then you're stuck - the closed green door prevents you from opening the red door and exiting to the east.

Perhaps a trap door along the entrance path (for example, on (3, 25) or (5, 23)).

Hmm. Maybe. I think the point of the Headmaster room, though, was more to unnerve the player (how can I kill him, there are no obstacles!)... but yes, you're probably right. I may well do that.

Well, it doesn't matter that much. It's just because not many people know how to kill the slayer that way.

Also, you don't need a player role Beethro script in that room

I do - Stalwarts can't drink potions, as far as I'm aware.

Or maybe it's just with a Power Token... golly! I haven't checked that!

I know. You have the option of taking the potion, however, you don't have to if you want to beat the room without it.

I just checked - Player Role Stalwarts can drink speed, clone and invisibility potions only after stepping on a power token, and can never drink mimic and decoy potions. But it turns out you don't need any of the potions to complete this room.

Yeah, I just found out the same thing :P. However, the potion is there to make the room slightly easier for those who want it, and to give those who don't a reason to feel rather pleased with themselves.
