Not a spammer. Through some support emails I learned minimike is a young DROD player and his father is helping him in the process. It could as well be his father checked his third post for grammatical mistakes, but wasn't around when minimike posted the other ones.

I'm a math tutor/professor--DROD fits into his tutoring because it's firmly based in logical rules, which reinforces the mathematical tools of algebra and algorithm.

Plus his dad (if this is indeed the person I'm thinking of) is a programmer, and they're fans of the scripting engine.

If this is indeed the case, I'll take him under my wing a bit, because I'm pretty sure that he doesn't yet have internet etiquette. And should lurk moar.

Plus, I'm auditioning for the next iteration of Danforth Strout.

Edit: yeah, it is my client. Working on it.

What's that supposed to mean exactly?

If you thought I asked someone to give me the ability to ban accounts, that's completely wrong. I asked someone to ban the specific account named earlier.

I can see where my question may have been interpreted wrongly, but this is no reason to assume something like that.

And where exactly am I not 'responsible' as you like to call it? I haven't received any complaints or bad reactions other than yours, and with a statement like that I can't really change my way of doing things, as I do not know what it is you think was/is wrong.

Has it occurred to you that "could someone take care of that" wasn't about changing his (in-)ability to ban accounts, but a request for Mike or Matt to actually do the banning?

I'm an admin at another (though less frequented) forum, and nuking spam bots has sadly become a regular housekeeping task these days...

I suppose we could do a ascii capatcha. Something like 'what colour is the red rose?' which would probably keep the majority of them at bay.

Hm...

If it's an autonomous spambot intelligent enough to copy replies and titles like that; it might be able to figure that out from the keywords "colour" and "red" alone.

If it's a spambot maintained by a human, CAPTCHA shouldn't be a problem for the user to input from time to time.

If it's a human pretending to be a bot, that pretty much rules out the CAPTCHA either way..

It does use a bit more force (or 4-chan) to bypass most CAPTCHAs, though...

SupportBot is not a spammer; it's used by the support team to take the emails and make them into support threads, IIRC.
