Alright, so you must use DROD to make a math puzzle.

After the deadline (May 18th), I will check out the puzzles, keep out the ones I can't solve, and then make a poll with the remaining ones. +3 mods to 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.

As I've never experienced the making of a compilation, I will compile the contest's results.

Rules:
-Must be a solvable maths problem for a 6th grader (no letter calculations or scientific puzzles).
-You can have up to 8 problems in one hold.
-You may only 2 entries.
-The hold has to be anyone edit.
-Don't be vague, give the player the information he or she needs.
-Have fun!

Jeff_ray ===

(EDIT: There are chances of me forgetting a few things because the deadline might be right in the period of one of my final exams, but i'll try to remember.)

Can a 6th grader use the binary system?
Can a 6th grader use Pythagoras, binomi or trigonometry?
Can a 6th grader calculate linear (1st grade) equations?
Can a 6th grader use negative numbers, vectors, roots, integrals, derivatives?
Can a 6th grader solve equation-systems?
Does a 6th grader know what a matrix is?

I think he means no algebra, surds and indices. It's also a good bet that he means base 10 is the numbering system to be used.

No, no, no, no, no, no. At least not in Canada.

Well, I could when I was a 6th grader.
I think the Holds should have a recommended age on them.

I'm not really sure what's happening in this contest.

Do you have to make a hold like: 1 Roach + 1 Adder = 0 Roaches and 1 Adder, where the Adder would eat the roach?

Integrals and derivatives! We barely have gotten in to it now, and I'm in grade eleven. (Not that a sixth grader couldn't do it, it's that easy, but they teach it very slowly)

(Edit) He didn't say it had to be an ORDINARY grade six student. I'm sure that one somewhere could do it. (Like you coppro)

Well, I do know what a basic 6th grade student knows, but I have an easier time doing that though. The trickier stuff, though, I don't know.

What exactly do you mean by math puzzle?

A puzzle with numbers? (5+4=?, Sudoku?)

A word problem? (I gave 5 donuts to Shelby, who already had 4 donuts. He eats 2 donuts. How many donuts does he have left?)

Geometry? Equations? Expressions? Time?

Word problems, they can be of any kind as long as a 6th grader can do it. No complex stuff though.

You have a 10x30x70 cm pool of water.
There are 3 50 ounce watter skippers on top, and 5 fishes with a volume of 5 cm³.
How much water can you maximally fill into the pool of water without anything spilling? :P

DROD does not seem like the best medium for this sort of thing...

May I ask in what school system 6th graders we are talking about? Maybe some age for '6th graders' would help as well.

I think Jeff was referring to the US system. In any case, sixth graders should be around 11-12, as in their sixth year at school (kindergarten excluded).

OK here is one. It only has two rooms (so far). It uses:

Hopefully that's OK. Also sorry about the length. I should probably have made it shorter. I beat it somewhat sloppily in about 17000 Moves.

I have just about no idea what to do.
I solved the problem itself in a minute or two, then I took a big look at the room and sighed.

First of all, (in once south), I tried entering the numbers in binary in the two first reachable binary counters. The binary thingy at the top did, sadly, nothing. I presume it was just for trying out.

Anyways, I quickly found the task of entering my binary solutions, secreted here, impossible.
Click here to view the secret text

When entering the number into the binary counters, the doors always alternate from closed to open, so the two counters' values can only differ by a maximum of 2.

I wrote a quick program to check, and indeed the only possible answer (except of course, 1) is mine, as it's impossible to enter a fractional number.
I tried randomly running around some other doors, and now's I'm totally confused as to the system.

Why are there about 5 different binary counters when only two would suffice?

You should be able to set each orb independently. Try having your sword face W and rotate it S to hit and orb and then rotate back.

I would be interested in seeing a way to do this with fewer binary counters.

Anyway, here is a better description of what things do:

I'll be honest: I got halfway through the first room on the first level before deciding that the counting in binary thing was so ungodly tedious that I'd rather play the thing in the editor than have to keep looping around endlessly. Unfortunately, the second floor involved more of that looping, and I closed the hold before even figuring out what was actually going on.
