I don't believe this has been raised before.

Brains don't appear to count as impassable in mind-map terms. In the demo attached, for example, that last roach should have started to make its way around the outside... unless it was *so* clever as to realise I was probably going to kill the brain soon anyways ;)

I'm using the latest .15 patch.

[EDIT]

I do realise fixing this would probably cause a lot of demo corruption but I thought I'd point it out. There's also something strange happening with brained golems but I'll post another topic if I can capture what's going on.

I believe this is considered not a bug. Every monster (including serpent heads, though not their bodies) is considered passable. So even if it doesn't make a lot of sense, it's consistent in a way.

Makes sense... though I would equate a brain the same as a golem's pile of rocks in that they're both stationary so shouldn't be considered passable.

Fixing this would probably break some holds.

Brains are dumb. They assume that monsters will move out of the way, even if they are brains, sleepy eyes or even tarless mothers before the first spawn. Also characters. And decoys.

But yeah, this isn't a bug. And it's been discussed before, back in '03/'04 :P

If the brains assume the monsters would move out the way, they'd make them move out the way... that's exactly my point.

In fact, your sentence doesn't make sense. How can a brain move out of the way of a brain?

Brains assume that monsters will move out of the way. But they are mistaken, because brains are dumb.

Brains make other monsters smart. They're like the boss' idiot son, who happened to become the supervisor via nepotism. He's not all that brainy (you think you've seen him drooling in his office), he doesn't really move anywhere, but he sure as heck makes everybody else work when he's in a room.
