And I have no idea if it is obscure or anything, but I play this game quite often and I like it.

It's a puzzle where you have to find where those letters go into the grid, based on the clues around it that indicate the first one you encounter in each row.

I've done a few puzzles like this in a puzzle book before, but with the 4 card suits instead of letters. This type of puzzle is not exactly very common, but it is classic, it has been around since looooong before computers existed, and I'm not sure if there's a name for it.

And with that, I couldn't possibly guess the name of this program.

The puzzle is an classic, but I haven't seen any similar computer versions.

The previous game is called Buchstabensalat.

The following game is probably not the best version of this game, but is probably more well-known as it was released recently.

I think the game's simply called "Kakuro Master".

Edit: After a quick google search I'm swayed to believe it's "Kakuro Infinite Edition". It looks like all those games are using the same color scheme.

Correct!

The first screenshot is the CPC version, because that version looks different than others. The second one is from the Amiga.

And usually I would link to a Wikipedia article, but somehow there isn't any. I'm too young to heard about this game when it was released, but I've heard it was an important game.

Yup, that's it. Unfortunately I discovered last night that it's close to unplayable on this system -- the mouse cursor you wave around is only useful for clicking on buttons, because any movement/attack order you give takes effect directly below the camera.

It runs a little better on my computer, but units simply don't recognize commands 99% of the time. Good thing Empire is so awesome.



This game, though, is a mixed bag. It certainly is awesome and addictive, but it is often unfairly compared directly to its sister series, especially after its spiritual sequel retconned it to be part of said sister series.
