Out of curiosity...

I've still got the demo of Webfoot DROD. It was weak not having any checkpoints or backspaces or anything like that...

I'm playing DROD since the days of good ole Caravel DROD, in its first incarnation (that was several months or so before Architect's Edition).

Since AE. And now, self-aggrandizement. :D

I totally kept screwing up on the name. I got AE from The Underdogs, and kept thinking the game was called Deadly Rooms of Doom. You know, because it rhymes. Anyway, I was kinda frustrated in Dugan's, and thinking 'Y'know, you'd think that with a level editor, there'd be a community somewhere.'

Surprisingly, Deadly Rooms of Doom doesn't come up with a whole lot. How did I keep making the mistake? No clue. All I know is I did, and it took me like a week to actually realize 'Wait a minute, this is Deadly Rooms of Death! Lemme try Google again.'

And thus did I come here. Har hra.

I've been playing DROD for about four months now (since December of 2005). But I'm trying to make up for lost time...

I've managed to finish both KDD and JtRH (although haven't mastered JtRH yet), and I'm working my way through the SS holds and a bunch of the higher-rated other holds.

What can I say, I love it!!!

(And yes, it's hard to find the time to play -- I have two kids, both of whom get up between 5AM and 6AM every morning. So I get to choose between sleep and DROD most evenings. Fortunately, I function well with little sleep.)

I played a bit of Webfoot but I voted for AE since I didn't really get "into" DROD like I did after AE came out.

I played through Webfoot DROD and right after I beat it got my foot in the development door by signing up for the Caravel DROD alpha test.

Note that Caravel DROD (version 1.5) is the remake of Webfoot DROD. It didn't have the level editor. BUT -- DROD:AE (version 1.6) does have the level editor. That's why it's called Architects' Edition. Too bad Caravel DROD isn't in the poll.

I'm fairly sure I still have my original copy of Webfoot DROD from when it was first released, along with a couple of patches, which I think took it to version 1.1

That's true, I somehow forgot that I really started with Caravel, not AE. Ah well.

I found Webfoot at Home of the Underdogs. Found drod.net when looking for demos for a room or two where I was stuck. Was stuck on a room or two for several weeks on levels 24 and 25, as I was unable to find demos for them, and finally got past them on my own. A while later I was checking random bookmarks on my web browser and found that drod.net was updated with a forum and they were beta testing a new version of drod which would include CHECKPOINTS! Yay!

So I've played all the way through 3 different versions of KDD so far (actually if I had to guess I've played through KDD a total of six times, though, I've only completed level 13 once... :blush )

Been around since the beginning. Don't know how many people actually registered the original version with Webfoot, but I was one of them.

We may not have had checkpoints, but we did have The Roasted Roach Grill. We could download savegames that allowed us to start at any level we chose. We also could download demos for most of the rooms and play them from the title screen. Unfortunately, those demos didn't include level 25 or L23 1N. :(

Brand spankin' new, here. Just started KDD and have been instantly hooked. I don't have the hand-eye coordination for FPS games, and I don't have the patience for RTS games. I think the original XCOM is one of the greatest games ever made, and I like solve-the-puzzle games like all the old Zork text games. KDD hits on all cylinders for me.

I wouldn't say from the very beginning, but first saw Webfoot DROD on a compact disk with like a thousand other games. Not sure if it was a pirated CD or just full of shareware games, but I was keeping track of DROD ever since.

I started with Webfoot DROD (no idea where I found it), played all the way through KDD, then promptly forgot about it for a couple of years.

Then a couple of months ago I was bored and going through my old games, decided to check up on DROD again and discovered the whole JtRH/CaravelNet thing.

One of these days I should really get around to opening one of those three brand new computer game boxes I have on my shelf and play one of them instead... ;)

I found Webfoot DROD at the Underdogs. I never finished that version - I think I got stuck in level 16 or thereabouts. Then I discovered the mailing list, and when Erik put out a call for testers, I decided to join in. This time, I managed to finish KDD.

I found it through someone's personal site( www.autofish.net, if you're interested) a short period of time before JtRH came out. I voted AE, but I'm not so sure if that was the right option. Anyway, have a good day, everybody.

I've been playing it since AE. About two years, I think. I found it on Home Of The Underdogs during summer Vacation in 2004, I've been going through logic games. I've been playing it for some time. But unfortunately I forgot about this game. Near the end of 2004 I've fond it again, and this time (without using warp room in the mimic level) I've played until finish. I've found this community when I was in real need of help :D. And so I'm here even now...

And I'm unfortunate person who don't have JTRH, because I don't have money, or there is no person who will buy it for me (I'm only fifteen, and I don't have any Bank Account). I've even thought of sending a mail with money to Erik :D. But I had no money ;).

Well, I was not playing DROD for few months. I must stop playing games, and start working on my own projects :/.
Um, why I'm saying this much? I should just end here, so have a nice playing ;).

We-We-WEBFOOT DROD?!??! *Shining eyes*
I... I've never played it... I've never found it anywhere on the web... ah... :w00t :w00t

lol. Just as cool as I thought :). THe strange is I feel better to this graphics type than to JTRH :). And I love the "time to move" thing. And no undo. And the graphic is sooo small!! I love smal gfx :). And there is no super extra graphic effects. Good old times, eh? Just like on Commodore or Amiga... :)

But our discussion is slightly getting too far from the topic ;). I don't want to get scolded by anyone ;).

...Okay. I just searched for this topic, and it seems that the demo version is perfectly fine. I had heard only negative stuff of talking about where to get Webfoot DROD before...

The 'demo' in the filename probably should've told me something. (Couldn't bother with downloading it as I've already seen what it's about)

------

And to stay on topic, I started with Architects edition after finding it off HOTU a few months under 2 years ago. I think I've already said that in one or two topics before, though.

Sorry, I had to remove the attachment. Here's the deal:

* Attaching a demo (let alone a full version) of someone else's game is distributing and needs permission from the copyright holder.

* Linking to a demo hosted on somebody else's site is okay with me.

* Linking to a full version hosted on somebody else's site is not okay, unless it is very clear that permission was given to the host to do so. And I make one begrudging exception for Underdogs and their abandonware, because... well, I'm too tired to explain my inconsistencies right now.

Okay. The only reason I put it on there was to show how far vmy DROD addiction goes. Okay, that's not the real reason, but I thought, "Hey, Shareware version of a demo off a CD-ROM that I purchased, It's gotta be okay." I guess not. Oh well, I guess I gotta be more careful about what I post.
