Tim, I sent you a PM about something, but haven't heard back from you. It would be quite alright if you didn't feel like replying, but I suspect you just haven't seen the message.

This is a general problem I have with sending people PMs--they usually don't see them. I am always tempted to use the on-file e-mails we have with each account, but no... respecting privacy and all that.

People who have disabled your e-mail contact, would you consider enabling it? When your e-mail is enabled, your address doesn't show up anyplace, plus also when people click on the e-mail button it brings up a pass-through form. So it is a reasonable way to let people (like me!) contact you in private without giving away your e-mail address to spammers and annoying people.

And there are valid reasons for keeping e-mail disabled, i.e. "I can't be bothered to futz with it." I just thought some people might have it disabled because they thought it would give away their address.

-Erik

Perhaps it would help if we moved where the PM inbox notification is, so when you log it, it says up the top, "You have 1 new message".

I say it's doable, and then I get Schik to do it.

Matt, the ideas man

Actually, I did read it, and you will get a reply in a few minutes.

The main problem was, this is the first day I'm officially recovering [...]. So I need to get a lot of things done in my normal life.

I am very sorry.

Please don't cancel my account because I've made a bad post :no

Personally, I prefer to only get spam in my email. I can't live without knowing that Cindy is waiting for me to get a free (no credit card check!) login and talk to her online right after I upgrade my virus checker and get my free sample of viagra. If you start clogging up my inbox with meaningful mail, I'll have to wade through it to get to the good meaty spam!

In all seriousness, I'm a member of a number of fora and newsgroups, and using the PMs rather than the email feature on each board makes it easier to keep them seperated (in effect, I have many inboxes which automatically keep everything sorted for me). While I'm sure I could set up Outlook to filter my mail into categories, I'm far too lazy to mess with that when my current system already does that well enough.

Also, I'm actually more likely to get a PM on this board before I get an email since I hang out here all day while I'm at work, but I only check my email when I get home at night.

I second Matts request to make the PM notification more noticeable at the top of the page. Other forums that I belong to have a pop up box if you have a PM waiting for you. I wouldn't go that far (they're actually kind of annoying...), but something better than 8 point font at the bottom of the page is certainly warranted.

To be honest, I found this Forum's PM such a great thing, that I use this more often then my e-mail. I find my e-mail web page really awkward (is that the word?) to use.

If you want me to read something, please send me a PM ;)

And Erik, you promised not to ban me if I replied to you, remember? ;)

I can see that there is going to be two camps of messaging preferences here and it will be difficult to get along. Until after the civil war, and then there will be no PM, only e-mail.

Seriously, I didn't know you folks liked PMs so much. Well, live and learn, I guess.

Maybe the "you have ~ unread messages" should turn a different colour when you get a pm. a nice green, or red. or both.

I believe you can tell if someone has not read a PM you sent them by noticing if it's bold in your PM outbox. I think bold messages have not been read by the recipient and nonbold messages have. Is this not so? (And was it an oversight to make it so?)

It is so. And I'm hoping it's not an oversight, it's a very useful feature.

Hopefully that won't be as much of a problem now.

Just for the record, I believe the default is to have e-mail disabled and PM enabled. So most people haven't actively disabled it, they just haven't bothered to enable it.

No, because being invited to become JTRH beta tester and/or receiving free JTRH copy doesn't sound like fun.

I reckon the login box ought to be at the top too. I tend to miss PM's cos I can't be bothered scrolling down to log in if I am only reading the forums, as I generally do.

I think it is very unfair to mod b0rsuk down just because he's saying that. I'm not sure he was just jealous, but it has lots of truth in it.

I am not doing it for fun. Believe me, after staying few weeks at home I have to do the things I still have to do all at once. It costs me so much time and energy that I just wished I was sick again... Besides, I'd rather want to spend more quality time playing JtRH than I can do now.

I'm also not doing it for a free copy. The money was saved already, and I still want to spend it. There's probably something else I can spend on, but it is more of less about that I still want to do something to show Erik and the rest that I appreciate what they have done already. You all agree with me that DROD:AE (and this forum) is great, don't you? (Probably I am not allowed to say it, but JtRH is better!)

The main reason why I said yes is because I want to help them and you out. I think some of you already thinks the beta period takes too long already. If I can do anything to help them, and to speed it up to make sure this game can be released faster for the rest of us, I would do it immediately. (Also because there's actually someone who asks me to do something!) Although I do feel a bit useless at the moment, I still hope it will make some difference.

I just modded b0rsuk's post back. If you don't agree, you can mod him down again. But I think he at least deserves that from me :)

I modded b0rsuk's post back up twice yesterday, so it looks like someone is determined to mod it down whatever the cost. It's obvious to me that someone either didn't realise b0rsuk was joking, or simply doesn't have a sense of humour - or humor, depending which part of the globe you live.

B0rsuk was in his usual mood, deeply sarcastic.

They simply want to make paintbrushes from poor badger. It's all they are capable thinking of when they see a badger. They won't take me alive.

At least I'm probably going to betatest Notrium Expansion, and Erik and others won't. I shall have my revenge ;-). That is, if Quanrian has enough time to actually start working on it.
