This is not a hold intended for publication in its current form and I'm not actually currently looking for beta testing on it.
For the curious, this is a little project motivated by a conversation Dragon Fogel and I had on DROD chat today on the topic of creative inspiration. I strongly believe that one of the best ways to drum up creative inspiration is to just make a whole lot of stuff. Fogel basically agreed and discussed his experience with NaNoWriMo as an example. Also if you weren't aware Dragon Fogel is basically the most awesome person ever. At any rate I made some offhand joke about a DROD version of NaNoWriMo in which architects would make 50,000 rooms a month. That turned into a less jokey and actually somewhat realistic goal of trying to make one room per day in the Month of December.
So here's the deal. I'm going to try to make one DROD room every day for the next month or so. Yes I know it's not actually December yet, shut up. I don't expect any of the rooms to be groundbreaking or even all that good, but I'm hoping that the act of making them gets some creative ideas flowing. I may skim off the best 5 or 10 to put in a hold at some point, but will most likely not be publishing this whole thing as is. I'm only posting it here because, let's be honest, I'm a lazy cop-out and would totally flake on this if I didn't have something to keep me accountable.
tl;dr: I'll try to update this thread every day with a new room for about a month. It's probably best to ignore it.
×28/Nov: 1S added. Idea was basically stolen from the last DROD room I played
http://forum.caravelgames.com/showroom.php?roomid=43892
Gotta start somewhere, right?
29/Nov: 1E added: This time I stole the idea from this room from "
The Tower"
http://forum.caravelgames.com/showroom.php?roomid=43395
Also, go play The Tower if you haven't yet, it's a really nice hold.
30/Nov: 2E and 3E added. Basically Fogel did all the work by finding an alternate solution to 1E. I just made two rooms enforcing the two separate solutions and will probably junk 1E when this is all over. Thanks Fogel!
1/Dec: 1S1W Probably this room will annoy folks who don't like snakes. I think it's fun though. Also probably broken. I'll also maybe go back and streamline the aesthetics if I plan to keep it. This was inspired by some rooms navithmastero made for "
Collection"
among other things.
2/Dec & 3/Dec: 1N1E and 1N2E. Missed yesterday so I added two rooms today. It'n not like there are any hard rules here so I'm going to go ahead and say that's okay. Just playing around with aumtlich and pickaxes here, nothing super interesting.
4/Dec: 2N1E a thoroughly uninteresting room. Based on chat recommendations I'm trying to see if I can make something with spiders. I don't think I'll end up using this one.
5/Dec: 2N2E is more a proof of concept than anything else. I haven't seen a published hold use quite this mechanic with time clones before. I'd like to eventually make a more interesting room with it.
6/Dec & 7/Dec: 2n3e is basically just a widget collection. I was trying to make something involving spiders again and this was all I could come up with. 1N3E is pretty much stolen straight from this room in The Tower:

8/Dec 9/Dec 10/Dec: 4E and 1N4E were both attempts to make a room with the underlying theme of "
use the same element for two different things."
4E was kind of a re-hash of some ideas I used in a contest entry, but I like the way that it ended up turning a standard trick on its head. Instead of multi-stabbing to make a tar blob cuttable, you multi-stab specifically to make it uncuttable.
11/Dec: 2N4E is an alternate version of 1N1E. Not sure which one I prefer (or if it's cheating to make a slight change and call it a new room.) 1S1E is heavily inspired by 2S from Stuck in the Muck.
18/Dec: 2S1E vaguely inspired by The Puzzle Catacombs. 2N was a response to Fogel's advice to "
just plop something down and then try to think of something to do with it."
I seem to have gotten the first part of that done at least.
21/Dec: 2N1W probably has the kind of snake manipulation that only I enjoy. 3N1W is just a bit of experimentation with pushing fegundos.
22/Dec: 4N1W and 3N. Two simple rooms playing around with movement restriction, mostly because I've never built rooms based on not turning your sword before. Turns out you can actually make not hitting Q or W with a dagger an interesting thing too.
26/Dec: 3n2w and 3n3w. Starting to slow down a bit, I'm going to try to make a whole bunch tomorrow.
