When I copy a small region of a room in 4 (even a single tile), go to another room, and try to paste that region, it asks "are you sure you want to delete the entire room". At which time I say "oh my sweet Jegus no," and then it lets me paste the fragment normally as if we had never had this awkward convo.

I don't think 3 has this problem. When I copy/paste room segments it never acts like I'm copy/pasting an entire room. I only noticed this one while working on Roundabouts for the contest, which I designed in 4 (most of my designing is still in 3).

I noticed the same thing while playing in both 3.0 and 4.0.

After some experimenting, I think the problem is that you are copying and pasting data (levels, rooms, room sections) from a variety of holds and levels. Reliably replicating the bug is too finicky for me to go into more depth, though, so a proper crackdown on the problem will be somebody else's responsibility. Sorry for not being more helpful.

I always get this when I copy a room, then later am copying something else.

I just tried that in 4, and it didn't have a problem.

Similarly, in 3 it happens even when I have not been copying rooms (I'm 99% certain of this). I don't really know what causes it.

Not sure what kind of keyboard you have, or how old your computer is.
So, assuming you have a newer, wireless keyboard (or a MacBook), you'll want to press and hold down the fn key while pressing the delete key.
For extended keyboards (ones with numeric keypads), there is a separate delete key with a ⌦ symbol on it; that's the one you'll want to use.
