After weeks of researching, purchasing, securing, porting, upgrading, installing, and testing, we finally have a working server again.

For the time being, the only thing up is the forum. I'm sure that Erik and Matt C. will get the main site up soon as well.

Until DROD.net starts pointing to the right place, the forum will be accessible via http://www.caravelgames.net/forum/ .

The forum software needed lots of changes to start working on this server, so there very well may be errors - just let me know if something doesn't work any more.

And I've already found a bug - the "1,2,3,last page" links at the bottom of the forums send me back to the first page again. This does not happen when I'm looking in a thread.

Many thanks to Schik, Erik, Matt and Matt for working so hard to get the forums up and running again. I'm sure it will be no time at all until the site is back exactly the way we all remember and love it.

We should also all thank dexterity.com for allowing us the temporary use of their forums, to allow the community to stay together in the face of adversity. Now that these forums are back, I can start feeding my addiction again

How did you guys find out the forum was up on caravelgames.net? I learned from the Kingdom of Loathing clan announcement board, but since not all of you play KoL, i wanna know how you found out.

We contacted people from the e-mail list, old Yahoo group, and I Ching contest enterers. There were more e-mail addresses stored with forum users that I had access to, but as a rule, I don't use those for any form of announcements.

If you play (or playED) Kingdom of Loathing, and you're in the Smitemaster's Guild, Schik had one of the clan announcements telling all this stuff, like Dexterity and the normal forum being back up.

Wow, I completely missed that. All I knew was one day I went to the site and saw "Account Suspended". I didn't get an email or anything, so I figured they were working through some momentary turbulence. "Momentary" turned out to have a definition longer than I thought possible, but now it's finally back.

EDIT: And my avatar is broken for the umpteenth time. I'ma get some hosting for that soon.

Yeah, the avatars were not stored in a database, and the database is all we were lucky enough to recover. Sorry 'bout that.
