I recognize that most of you probably don't have PSPs, as the PSP is not exactly a beacon of shining handheld goodness in the manner of the DS. But if you *do*, this Crush game thingy might be worth a look. The basic mechanics involve moving about a 3D polygonal landscape collecting your "marbles" in order to open the level exit. And there are various obstacles and monsters and types of terrain. Not exactly unfamiliar so far. But there's a big twist in the form of the crush. Crushing is conceptually simple but has all sorts of possibilities. Basically, you angle the camera to one of several pre-set views, and then you press L...and it "crushes" from 3D into 2D (yes, kind of like the Wii Paper Mario in reverse), which might turn obstacles into steps, bring ledges separated by an impossible gap within reach, let you crawl under terrain in ways that weren't previously obvious, form ladders, do bad things to monsters, or activate "thoughts" which can trigger various special effects, though as I'm not far in the game (I may like DROD, but I'm honestly not that good at puzzle games) I've only seen two - the trophy thought, which activates a trophy object that unlocks that level in trophy mode, and the lightheadness thought, which makes you jump higher.

And there's a story about your character going into a special machine called "C.R.U.S.H." operated by a, um, slightly nutty doctor in order to cure your insomnia. And apparently, some other psychological issues, as it turns out. It's actually not too bad, and it's supported by attractive, kind of creepy art.

Like I say, I'm not too far so I can't guarantee that it holds up. But it certainly seems promising so far.

It seems alright so far. Personally, I really like my PSP because of the obscene amount of homebrew, if you don't do that sure it's lacking. DROD Architect Edition was ported to the GPX2 so I imagine it'll end up on the PSP if someone gets interested enough.

However, it seems like crush is a step in the right direction.

I've been having my reasons to buy a PSP diminish as the games I'd like to play on there get ported to other systems.

Yeah, the main sticking point with it is that you can effectively play games of any system not including this or last generations. N64 support is being hammered out, and PS emulation works perfect. It definitely needs some killer UMDs.
