I was just browsing the Forum when I thought I would check out my progress by looking at my stats. It neatly classifies as holds 100% finished, holds part explored but not finished and unexplored holds. Mostly this looks fine but there are some anomalies like som eholds (classified as partly explored) which itlabels as 100% completed (& I have checked that there are no seret rooms missing). And some holds which I know I have explored (case in point is Claythro Tower which I am currently on 7th level) which the screen says is unexplored. So I upload my scores (which seems to take forever) and no change. What's happenning?

On a completely unrelated issue I have recently found that when I complete a room it can take a really long time (like 5 mins) to move to the next one. This may be because my laptop is finally dying and may be solved when I get a new one soon.

First of all, you should make sure that you are connected to CaravelNet. If there is a big red X in the upper right on the main screens, then your key has been invalidated. Go to your settings and request a new one. If there's a green check mark, you're fine.

Are you doing a full score upload? If you're not sure, you probably haven't. Go to your Data folder (outside of DROD, the program, but inside the DROD folder), and open your configuration settings. Under the section "Startup", there's something that says "Fullscoreupload=0". Change that 0 to a 1, and then reopen DROD, and upload your scores. This should fix all the problems you mentioned, so long as your key is valid.

Except the slowdown. That may be a death knell for your laptop. Or it may be standard fare. I don't know--I've experienced random slowdowns before, and I don't know what's caused them.

Sadly no that didn't work. I edited the drod.ini file to Fullscoreupload=1. Checked that I was definitely connected to Caravelnet (big green tick). Uploaded and then checked the stats, no change. Also I noted that the drod.ini file had been reset to Fullscoreupload=0 (yes I did check that I had saved the changes). Any more suggestions (it's not a big issue just nice to have sorted)

And yes I think the slowness is just my poor old dying machine.

Did you change it with DROD open? DROD keeps a copy of the .ini in memory and saves it when it quits, so if it was open the changes will never be noticed.

No, DROD was closed. Changed .ini, saved that, opened DROD, uploaded scores. Closed DROD (saw that .ini had been reset) and checked stats on the forum.

Wait. It's case sensitive. Did you use FullScoreUpload or Fullscoreupload? It probably makes a difference.

Also, on your "My Scores" page, does it say you have any waiting to be verified? Demos need to be checked for legality before they enter the system, maybe that's why.

Well I just edited the file and cut the 0 out and replaced it with a 1 so I didn't touch the keyword or change the case, so I don't think that mattered. I'm looking at the my stats tab that you get when you go through the high scores link at the top of the forum page. I can't see anything waiting to be validated.

Did you check My Scores tab? look at the bottom of the page for "Unverified demos (yours)".

Steve.

As noted above, there are currently approximately 2500 scores on queue, which are probably mostly yours. Wait for them to be validated before checking again. If it still doesn't work, then maybe you are using an old version. Full uploads were buggy for a while. If you're on a Windows or Linux system, try upgrading to 2.0.15 and do a full upload again.

Ah yes there are a number of unverified scores (mine) I hadn't looked there. So presumably someone (or rather something) goes through this lot to make sure it's all above board and at some stage my stats will be updated. That seems to explain it. Thanks for all the help and sorry for not realising how the system worked.

It's the high score spider, which checks all the demos to make sure that they are valid. For instance, if a hold is updated, but you aren't using the most recent version, some demos may no longer be valid. If there's anything else wrong, just poke the forum monkey.

Well the "spider" has done his/her bit and I now have no unverified demos on the scores tab but still it claims that Claythro tower is unexplored (amongst others) despite the fact that I am now on the roof. And holds which are 100% completed still appear in the not yet completed area. I suppose I am still on 2.0.14 and could upgrade, but is there a known bug in the system here or am I unlucky? I'm not unduly bothered as my scores are never going to rank in the top 10 (actually not even in the top 50) but it is one way I can keep track of what holds I have completed as I simply can't remember otherwise.

Hold conquering status doesn't update by uploading scores.
Oh, wait a minute...it never does? It should -- the game stores a special saved game/demo record whenever one conquers a hold that should be uploaded to CaravelNet on upload all scores. If it never works, there's probably another bug that Matt and I need to work out.

Well it is rather strange. As there are only 2 holds that I have completed (and the screen shows 100% complete) that stay in the explored but uncompleted section of my stats. And I have been down the final steps several times (whilst connected to Caravelnet) to try get it to accept that I really have completed these holds. It is possible that I transferred these holds from another computer (exported and imported profiles etc) when I had to change machines some years ago. But my record from the game (ie by going to change location) shows these as 100% complete as well as the rooms completed under my stats from the forum.

Also this doesn't explain why the stats tab shows some holds as unexplored (especially when I'm on the final level). So something seems to be wrong. So perhaps it is a bug. I'm not unduly bothered it is only that I use it as a personal record of where I am. I find it particularly useful to know which holds I have nearly completed so I can go back and have a bash at those again (I don't think there is any way of finding this information from within the game, it might be useful)

If I have understood correctly, demos in holds which are not in CaravelNet system should never been marked as sent. Thus they should be able to be uploaded after they are in holds board by simple "Upload My Scores". That did NOT work. None of my demos of the hold were sent.
Did you play the hold while you were connected to CaravelNet? Twenty-Three Rooms had a beta board, so it was on CaravelNet during the HA process (and your demos were probably marked as sent during this time). This may have caused some of your problems, but probably not all of them.

Yes, I was connected to CaravelNet. So, that may cause that problem.

IMO, in optimal situation beta demos, even if they are on caravelnet, are not marked as sent.
Demos never get marked sent at all unless the server responds to you that you scored a rank in that room. This should never happen with a beta hold in the first place.

It looks like there was a misunderstanding between Mike and I on what the server's response should be to a beta hold demo upload. I've modified the server side to send what the game expects, so hopefully this will work better in the future.

If you remember, please let us know if it works better next time a hold is promoted.

I was a beta tester on the Ravenous hold and I'm doing a score upload. So I'll feed back results later.

When I do an "Upload my scores", how many scores should I expect it to upload? From what Mike has said it looks like only unverified scores should be uploaded. But this morning it was over 2500 scores. So far only one of these has turned up as a new high score. I didn't do a full upload.

Can Schik check to see what sort of demos these are? Maybe unscorable rooms or rooms with more than one demo? If this is the case can a fix be applied to either the server or in game that will mark these as uploaded?

Steve.

Edit: My score upload is complete and it's strange. Some, but not all of my Ravenous scores were uploaded. I was expecting some not to work due to changes in the rooms, but I checked in game and at least some of the missing demo's are valid. Is there any other testing I can do to try to work out what is going wrong?

Demo uploads for Ravenous will still be affected by the upload-beta-demos bug. What I changed should affect how the game marks demos uploaded while the hold is still in beta. So demos for Ravenous, and any beta hold demos that were uploaded more than about 10 hours ago were marked as uploaded and will not be re-upped except in a full mass upload.
