Basically, Somerset pulls out his switchblade when he realizes what Mills is going to do, and as Mills is about to pull the trigger Somerset tries to throw the knife at him to stop him, but Mills catches the movement in the corner of his eye and turns his gun. Then the sniper does what he's trained to do, which is protect Somerset by taking Mills out.

I knew I knew those quotes, but couldn't think where. So I looked them up, and learned, and I agree it's a great, great movie, one I certainly enjoyed watching a lot. For the sake of accuracy, though, the first quote should read:
