Here's a fairly mediocre idea: a floor tile that allows tar and mud mass to grow over it, but doesn't allow tar and mud babies to spawn on it.

The main use is to allow tar to expand cleanly around corners - preventing babies from spawning that could be used for unintended purposes (mainly blocking the aforementioned tar)

An additional possibility is to prevent babies from forming when the tar is cut (like tar on stairs, if you've seen that). Admittedly not too many puzzle possibilities there
- prevent unwanted babies
- all but one babyless square - cut the tar correctly so that you do get a baby. (for killing a serpent, etc) (although that potentially suffers from the "stuff under tar" problem)
- an "easy" option for tar/mud clearing.

Different interactions with other monsters could be added to make it more versatile (and interesting).

Hmmm, it could be interesting, but it's kind of boring just by itself. I would definitely spice it up by having interactions with other monsters, not just tar and mud babies. Obviously no roach queen spawning comes to mind. Or not allowing mimics or decoys to be placed there either...this could be important depending on how many doors you have in the area, or if trapdoors don't fit your design.

Game on,

One thing that came to my mind, but then I was going to keep it secret but then I decided not too was a special floor that had wo special effects: Tar babies would rejoin into tar when on the floor (as long as it would be stable) and mud babies can move through mud, once again as long as they're on that floor.

Interesting idea. The only thing I don't like about it is that it would be sensitive to movement order, as when the monsters move would affect whether they form a 2x2 square. Perhaps, a requirement could be added that they form stable tar, and they didn't move last turn.

Stable tar was a given, and the way I envisioned it the check would occur just before growth time, ie. babies form up, then tar grows. This would mean that you wouldn't accidentaly cause tar to form up halfway through movement.
