I remember someone suggesting the idea of a prism to make evil eyes more interesting, but I thought of a bunch of different kinds of prisms.

The normal kind. Changes the evil eye's line of sight 45, 90, or 135 degrees.

e=evil eye.
x=empty space.

\\------------e

Double-sided prism. same thing as the normal kind, but effects eyes on both sides of the prism.

xxxxxxxx|xxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxx|xxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxx|xxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxx|xxxxxxxx
e--------\\-------e
xxxxxxxx|xxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxx|xxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxx|xxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxx|xxxxxxxx

The three-way splitter thing.

Will reflect the line of sight into two directions, at 135 degree angles, to make a Y-shaped line of sight.

xxxxxxxxxxxx/x
xxxxxxxxxxx/xx
xxxxxxxxxx/xxx
e--------<xxxx
xxxxxxxxxx\\xxx
xxxxxxxxxxx\\xx
xxxxxxxxxxxx\\x

The mirror.

Allows eyes to see behind them.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
-----------e----------|
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

The thing I can't think of a name for yet.

An eye facing this from any direction will have his line of sight changed 135 degrees clockwise.

xxxxxxxxxexxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxx\\xxx|xxx/xxxxxx
xxxxxxx\\xx|xx/xxxxxxx
xxxxxxxx\\x|x/xxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxx\\|/xxxxxxxxx
e---------O---------e
xxxxxxxxx/|\\xxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxx/x|x\\xxxxxxxx
xxxxxxx/xx|xx\\xxxxxxx
xxxxxx/xxx|xxx\\xxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxexxxxxxxxxx

Which also leads me to another idea. Two new types of orbs.

Orbs which rotate prisms. Beethro strikes this orb, and whatever prism(s) are attached to it will be rotated 45 degrees clockwise. for example. Let's take a simple prism set at 90 degrees.

|xxxxxxxxxxxxx
|xxxxxxxxxxxxx
|xxxxxxxxxxxxx
|xxxxxxxxxxxxx
\\------------e

after one strike:

xxxxx/xxxxxxxxx
xxxx/xxxxxxxxxx
xxx/xxxxxxxxxxx
xx/xxxxxxxxxxxx
x/xxxxxxxxxxxxx
\\-------------e

after two strikes:

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
|--------------e----------
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

and I could keep going.

Also, another orb could be one only activatable by evil eye lines of sight. A simple puzzle could be rotating prisms to lime up evil eyes with these orbs so beethro could advance.

The end.

It might be interesting to have other monsters interact with the mirrors/prisms as well. For example:

B

\\---------R

The roach would ordinarily try to move NW to go straight for Beethro, but in this case, it moves W to go straight for the reflection of Beethro.

Wraithwings which can see their own reflections might think that other wraithwings were closer to them and act accordingingly. (This seems a bit more complicated to implement and later figure out as a player)

I think that could become too unpredictable. What would happen in this situation?

prefer vertical over horizontal?

Go to the closest "beethro"?

What happens if a roach encounters two decoy poitions? (Edit: it seems to go for the closest one with ties going to the first placed decoy)

It doesn't matter too much as long as the rules are defined, fairly intuitive, and as consistant as possible with other rules.

Ok, maybe that was a bad example. But I still think, that it would create too confusing situations. (At least more confusing than decoys do...) Especially in rooms with many prisms.

If you would prefer vertical over horisontal, what would you do with diagonals?

I think that the basic (just mirrors for the eyes) idea doesn't add much thing to the game. They can be emulated by placing multiple eyes.

Although I find it very funny.

If your worried about problems with direction those problems can easily be fixed:

Rxx
xWx
xxB

Which way does the roach go?
Also, the mirrors would make rock golems harder (assuming they saw mirrors)

I think this is just too obscure.

An element which changes evil eyes a bit. Doesn't sound very fun to me.

Most monsters can sense Beethro anyway, so line of sight would feel very artificial except for eyes.

Wraithwing - forget it. No one understands how exactly multiple wraithwings work. Serpents are easier to predict. If you're adjacent to a wraithwing (one of many), it may or may not attack you - there's no clear rule. No need to make Wraithwing any more obscure/complex.

I think you all are thinking about it too hard. I think it should just be limited to evil eye line of sight, but that is just what I think. I can think of plenty of things to do with that, because I got bored.
