I just had some fun trying to work out why DROD would say "
SDL Parachute Deployed"
whenever I started, even over re-installs. The first time I had installed it on my desktop, there had been too little disk space - the install appeared to run without a hitch (and I *probably* had enough space for that), but the import player evidently did not; if I remember correctly, the game crashed at this point with "
SDL Parachute deployed"
. I got the same message whenever I tried to start DROD after that (along with a bunch of sound-playing non-fatal errors).
I assume that what happened is that DROD ran out of disk space when I was importing the player file (.caravel/drod-2_0 is some 65ish megs!), and neither reported this usefully nor was it able to recover.
Deleting the drod-jtrh directory and reinstalling obviously didn't help, since the presumably corrupt files were in .caravel (which I didn't even realise existed until I had spent some time scanning the forums).
Just a hint in case someone else runs into something similar. Having DROD detect this situation somehow (maybe easiest would be to have it detect when it runs out of space during import, and have it clean up the half-done work in that case?) would be ideal, of course
