I downloaded The Oversight through CaravelNet on my 2.0.8 install of JtRH on Linux. After selecting that hold and going to the main menu, when I press 'D' to watch a demo, it briefly displays a room, but does not play through the demo. I get:

Assertion error in line 202 of ../../DRODLib/DbCommands.cpp: "Bad index param."

in my drod.err. Incidentally, if I run through a slow X connection, I can see Beethro drawn in the very upper-left corner of the room, on top of a wall. That could just be coincidence, though.

Ack! When my Caravel DROD got corrupted...every single room that I could restore to had Beethro starting in the upper left hand corner. I hope it hasn't returned...

I wish I had more to say, other than your account of your bug has filled me with dread...

I looked at the hold file, and the demo inside it does start at 0,0, which is bad seeing as there's a wall there. How it got like that is hard to say, but at least it's not a corruption in wmarkham's dats.

There were problems before with that hold. Mine too. Sometimes random holds turn bad.
