Weston Markham has undertaken a Macintosh port of DROD: Journey to Rooted Hold. In fact, it looks like he's got it nearly ready for beta-testing. What we could really use are some people willing to test on Macs with OS X. We are only going to distribute demo versions for this stage of testing, but if you already have the full version for Windows/Linux, you should be able to hack a full Mac version together by copying some files.

If you are interested, let us know by replying here. I'm going to leave it to Weston to coordinate with people on beta-testing.

I'm absolutely interested. I have very limited experience with OS X, and with DROD.

I'm running a Mini on 10.3.9 But do not have another machine from which to grab the data files.

Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help. It's great to see a port on OS X!

Hi! I missed this topic when I made that other post. I'm still trying to tie up a few more loose ends before I send out any beta versions. One thing that I am interested in knowing, though, is what range of hardware and OS versions our testing will cover. For example, I'm using a PowerBook G4 for development, under 10.3.9. It has whatever the standard video adapter is (something from ATI, I gather, with 128Mb memory) and so far I have only been using the built-in (1280x854) LCD. 1Gb memory. Plenty of hard drive space.

My primary machine here is a 1.2ghz G4 iBook w/256mb of RAM (don't ask) and (i think) a 32mb radeon 9200, and that's what I'd be playing DROD on, but I have other machines (900/500/233mhz G3s with varying specs) I'd be happy to check things on.

All with 10.3.9, although I could downgrade a few (even to 10.2 or below) if it'd be helpful (I can't imagine many people are still using 10.2 nowadays, though..).

(Fuzzie, there's gotta be plenty of people using a sub-10.3 OS. I have two Powerbooks sitting in my house running 7.5.3. (God I hate passive-matrix displays))

Sadly it never went past unpacking:

I downloaded the .dmg alright, which then extracted a mount volume to my desktop quite fairly too, I then proceeded to double-click this volume: "DROD", which captured full-screen-edness for one second, and I was back to the Desktop. Rebooted, but nothing changed (not that rebooting helps much except on Win).

Speicus must have gotten the beta to run, since he (/she?) posted a couple of bugs.

Also, note that the beta currently has a bug that prevents it from starting without manually copying data files first. See http://www.drod.net/forum/viewtopic.php?TopicID=6546.

I have the full version of drod for windows and it is bad to start my windows machine everytime I want to play.

Just got DSL and download time was 1 hr
Difficult to open the game first windows and the game cannot be played (No rooms to choose from)
Was able to look at help commands and general instructions.
