Please note that, just like build 20, the build 21 UPGRADE INSTALLER WILL OVERWRITE YOUR DATA. (So will the full install, but that is more obvious.) This is intentional since changes have been made to the data. If you just copy your .DAT files over from build 20, you are very likely to have problems. To move your data from build 20 to build 21 (if its important to you), export from build 20 and import into build 21.

We won't have to go through this export/import thing for every build--only the ones that have new .DAT files.

The beta builds are *still* really good at losing your data. I'm going to repeat my general advice for holding on to your data:

1. If you've got data from Caravel DROD 1.5 (previously-released stable version of DROD--not a beta build) don't uninstall Caravel DROD 1.5. In particular, you want to keep your drod1_5.dat file, which contains player settings, saved games, and demos from DROD 1.5. Installing a beta build in the directory where DROD 1.5 was installed should be safe. The drod1_5.dat file will not be overwritten.
2. Export your player into the homemade directory. If you are creating holds or demos, export those too.
3. To test the validity of the exports and provide another backup, import holds, demos, and players into a second backup installation of DROD. It would be reasonable to always keep one installation around that is for the previous build of DROD. So maybe when you install build 20, put it in a different directory than build 19.

The build 21 upgrade installer will upgrade from build 15 or higher. Again, the build 21 upgrade installer WILL OVERWRITE any data created in previous builds. That includes saved games, demos, holds, and player settings.

We think these bugs were fixed in build 21. If you were able to see the bug previously, (maybe you reported it) it would be helpful if you'd take a moment to verify that the bug is really gone in this build.

Hello!

I saw the list of bugs fixed, and I have a few things to mention.

The first thing isn't a bug, but it caused one. It's just a question-does ctrl-+ create new lines in scrolls? I wasn't sure. I'd like to know about this, about scrolling through separate lines of a scroll, and about why I can't delete the last character in the a line of a scroll that isn't last.

However, I now have a late bug I found in Build 20: :cigar I had been in the middle of trying ctrl-+ I mentioned above to see if it would add a new line to a scroll I was writing, when DROD crashed. When I tried to open it, an error message appeared. It's title was "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library." Its message read:

"Runtime Error!

Program: (build 20's (drod.exe's) directory)

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information."

It had options of OK and the X for closing.

And I don't know why, but when I installed Build 20, all paths to Caravel DROD changed to paths for Build 20. I should probably read the post about exporting.

One other thing I have to say is about Beethro's Tale after you win. I'm not sure if this is the same as the end sequence bug, but the "You won the game!" is lower down and partly cut off, in some "recap demos," it showed Beethro moving in the wrong places with monsters on him, and in the middle of Level 24's "recap demo," DROD crashed.

I'd be glad if all of this was fixed and told to me.

Erik (or Schik, or someone else), should these old stickies related to previous builds be "un-stickied" so that they don't clutter up the top of the forum?

Game on,

Game on,
I figure I'll show the last 3 or so, and then unstick older ones.
