1. Read these instructions before voting.
2. Entries should be judged based on the ingenuity and creativity of the puzzles, difficulty and fun. The rank goes from "I would never have figured out how to beat that hold; I don't even know where to start. A perfect security system!" (10) to "I think I see a way to solve it, but I am unable to." (8) to "What a difficult and fun room!" (5) to "I wouldn't secure my greckles with that, but it was kind of fun to play" (3) to "Even a braindead monkey would be able to solve that!" (1-0). However, you shouldn't consider the order in which the entries were solved, but rather think of how you would solve them. And you can give a rank higher than 7 even if you've solved the room. The clarifications above are just a general guideline.
3. All entries are anonymous. You should not take the author into account when voting.
4. If you want to comment on the entries before the poll is over, put your comments inside the following unhidetime-tags:
[unhidetime=03/13/2005 12:00pm]Your comments here[/unhidetime]
5. All authors must give their own entries a "10".

If there is a tie, then the entry that took longer to solve (demo was posted later than the other(s)) will be the winner.

The winner will get +10 rank points.

Entry 1: Golbeno's Annoying Security System
This hold was a lot more difficult than it looked like. It's almost strange that my R key is still fully visible on my keyboard after all this restarting. Easily the hardest and most ingenious hold with several very nasty tricks. The annoying thing is that always when I figured a new thing I had to restart the room because it wasn't solvable anymore. But still, two thumbs up!

Entry 2: Golbeno's
I almost made a room like this myself but then I changed my mind. I didn't complete this room but my tar blob map was only 2 blobs away from correct solution. At least I understood the tar invariants idea correctly.

Entry 3: Golbeno's Security System
I think this was the second easiest entry. (I didn't use palace tileset and the secret wall was easy to spot.)
Btw, I completed this hold about 6 hours before Rabscuttle but I didn't have access to internet...

Entry 4: High Security
This was my entry. I started to build the room without any general idea in mind and placed few small tricks here and there. I think it was pretty ok even though Stefan found an unintended way to use the wraithwing. (Rabscuttle's demo is very similar to mine. (Except that mine is only ~1950 moves long and lasts around 9 minutes.)

Entry 5: Golbeno's Treasury
I agree mostly with what Agaricus said about this room. It was the easiest and most boring entry. Waste of space IMO. One easy puzzle takes the whole room.

Entry 6: Exterminator-proof
This hold would've been really tough without seeing through tar or using tar babies to kill the serpent. I didn't play with this room a lot because I didn't like the idea of having to reset a zillion times in the end to test all orbs.

Hmmm... :? I'm fairly certain that I put the ending time for the poll at 15:00 GMT, but that doesn't seem to be the case (or then there's some miscounting somewhere). I've changed the unhidetime-tag in the first post so that it should reveal the text at the same time the poll ends (I originally had it to reveal the comments one hour after the poll would end, but the tag logic seems to have been fixed, so that is needless now). The correct unhidetime-tag is therefore:

And now, the moment you've all been waiting for...

... award-time!

Below is the poll results:
Entry #1: "Golbeno's Annoying Security System" (Rabscuttle) - 8.8571428571429
Entry #2: "Golbeno's" (Watcher) - 8.1428571428571
Entry #3: "Golbeno's Security System" (DiMono) - 4.8571428571429
Entry #4: "High Security" (Doom) - 8.5714285714286
Entry #5: "Golbeno's Treasury" (Maurog) - 4.2857142857143
Entry #6: "Exterminator-proof" (TripleM) - 6.7142857142857

The winner of the poll is therefore entry #1 (Rabscuttle)! Congratulations!

I'm feeling generous today (and I've got lots of mod-points), so I've increased the amounts of rank points you will get. You now get +3 for entering and +7 for solving an entry (and +14 for making an 'unsolved' entry). Here's the list of the rank points you will receive:
DiMono: 3 = 3
Maurog: 3 = 3
TripleM:	3 = 3
Watcher:	3 = 3
Doom: 3 + 7 = 10
agaricus5:	7 + 7 = 14
Rabscuttle:	3 + 7 + 7 + 7 + 10 = 34

Post something in this thread and you will get modded.

I intend to make a compilation hold of the entries, so if any authors want to make fixes to their entries, then you can post them here (I know that at least TripleM had a fix; I withheld the author demos because of that).

Um... that's about everything, I think, although I'm almost certain I've forgotten something.

My brief comments on the holds:
Entry #1: Wow! I haven't had this much fun solving a room since... I don't know when. After looking at the room for about half an hour, I knew exactly what had to be done, but doing it was definitely not easy. I still don't know why I did the wraithwing manipulation in the beginning using TWO wraithwings, and then killed one of them almost immediately after it was done...

Entry #2: I haven't tried solving this room yet, because Rabscuttle got to it before me. I did do a screenshot of the room with everything visible (including the green doors), though.

Entry #3: Well, security systems do have backdoors sometimes, but I didn't like it. And Rabscuttle: it was impossible to cheat in this contest ("you may use any means necessary to solve the holds").

Entry #4: This room was quite fun, but I don't think it was really as devious as it could/should have been. All puzzles in it were very logical (however, that didn't stop me from having to restart it a lot of times when I realized I had made a mistake (I didn't plan ahead at all when I played this one)), so the room was like an ordinary room, only a bit more difficult.

Entry #5: I'm not sure why you all are complaining about the checkpoint. I think it was appropriately placed (since you can step on it after you've killed the roaches/spiders and still be able to solve the room). The puzzle was too easy, though.

Entry #6: Now this is about what I expected someone to make for this contest (I even made a small program that prints out the monster placement order in a room). Unfortunately, it had a trivial solution. I haven't played this one either (since Wesley beat me to it).

Edit: And once again I completely missed a voting thread for something I entered. Thanks, whoever gave me that 10!

Yeah, my hold had the trivial solution of using a tar baby, sadly. I didn't spend enough time looking for something like that. I wouldn't mind seeing a demo of someone doing it without a tar baby (eg Rabscuttle), since my best solution ended up with 0 moves to spare. (I designed the timer on the right to finish precisely on the best solution I could come up with.)

I agree with the comments made already too; they pretty much sum up my opinions, although some of the more specific ones I still can't do, like room 1 for example. They were mostly very good (and of course, very hard) rooms, although I'd say that most of them wouldn't play very well as part of a larger, more general hold.

Still, it was fun to play the holds; I enjoyed this contest very much.

Huzzah! Thanks all!

Thanks Stefan for running the contest - it was fun. Thanks also for not participating :) - I seem to recall your Unfortunate Architect entry was difficult and hard. (and now I have to go and complete it as a matter of pride/stubbornness) ;)

TripleM: My demo of your hold is attached. I think I had a couple of moves to spare.

I knew it should've been harder. But at least I guess it wasn't a piece of cake for everyone. And I really didn't spend that much time with it.

Thanks for running the contest, Stefan.

I must say, those were some devilishly tricky rooms. I'm very impressed with the level of difficulty in this contest.

I'm not very surprised that others guessed which entry was mine, given that I more or less invented that style of puzzle. But now, I'm sort of wondering: what if I'd released a room like my entry for this contest before making the post on tar invariants? How long would it have taken people to figure out?

Stefan, I think your numbers are off. Shouldn't Agaricus be getting 3 points for submitting a hold as well? You gave him 7x2 for solving two holds, but it looks like you forgot to give him credit for entering one.

Luckily I still have the roach order written down.

Although I didn't realise you'd added a wall near the start, and I couldn't work out why I couldn't shuttle the roaches like I had been before.

Killed the last tar mother with 8 moves to spare.

And you have the stairs bug. :(

Incidentally, I'll also reward people for those brave or foolish enough to solve my updated version.
