No, unless I'm misunderstanding, this lighting issue is actually due to north-facing walls not actually abutting the north end of the tile. Otherwise, with the 3/4 view, they'd actually have to stick out over the next-north tile. That would look more visually compelling in some ways, while being less clear from a gameplay standpoint. Also, how would Beethro fit through those diagonal gaps if there actually were no gap?
The game engine calculates a precise 3-D model of the walls and the shadows are cast precisely within the model. The point lights do emanate from a positive point in Z-space (e.g., from the top of the lamp), but they are almost precisely centered on the tile. (This should not be changed, but if you wanted to try out your hypothetical change, Skell, do it by changing the 3-D room model so the north-facing walls extend to the north edge of the tile.)
