Heroine's quest : once inside thief guild (0)

I opened the barrel and gone down the ladder.

As soon as i get downstair the girl yell "Get her", a bandit throw a rope at me and then stab me.

I dont get it

If you got the dog to walk to the barrel then I assume you're a warrior. In which case, a warrior generally will look for a brute force way to open it as opposed to solving codes.
