I quite enjoyed me some slayer slay'n. In most rooms it is pretty clear
what needs to be done, you just need to work out the
how. Which is part of the fun. There were a few puzzles that required some head scratching, but nothing too strenuous.
I do have one recommendation and two complaints which I feel warrant mentioning and are the reason I gave the hold a 7 instead of an 8:

Scripting: I really feel architects should help players when it comes to scripting that manipulates game behaviour or events. I know it's a very simple script here, but some things that seem obvious to the architect or experienced player are not obvious at all to a beginner. I remember how confused I was the first time I encountered this type of scripting in a hold. Seeing as you already have a scroll in the Entrance of your first level, there could have been a message on it explaining what happens. Eg. Kill all slayers in a room to open the yellow room gate.
Slayer manipulation 1N: this room should have a scroll in it right at the entrance that states you don't need to kill all the monsters to exit the room. (In fact I don't think the room is solvable if you try.) I know there's no green door and the room is marked 'not required', but lots of puzzle rooms lack a green door and I don't think I'm the only player who doesn't pay strict attention to the mini-map to see what colour a room is. Instead I'm usually examining the room. And here I could see I'd have a backtracking issue if I tried to exit with the room in an unsolved state. I wasted a lot of time trying to solve this room before finally checking out H&S and finding out I did not have to kill everything in the room.
Conquer tokens: this for me is the big issue. I really would have enjoyed this hold more if it had had conquer tokens. Just put them on the far side of those yellow room gates. The hold contains 10 rooms with a slayer killing puzzle, for which the player receives no "
reward"
because they are technically "
unrequired"
. I felt cheated.
And for me, there's now no compelling reason to optimize. (Yeah, yeah, I should want to do it just for the principle. Sorry. I want my carrot.) Another reason for a conquer token: unless you think of hitting F4 before exiting, no demo is recorded.
I know that was long and I'm sorry if it gives the impression that there is a lot wrong with the hold. There really isn't. I'm just very bad at succinct explanation. I hope to see more from Red-XIII.
