Yeah, a couple times it didn't let me go to the next page either, but a couple refreshes fixed it up just fine. (I think it just hates Mozilla).
I was forced to use "
old test"
link, because the new didn't work. Mozilla 1.4
masonjason: there's more about that garbage than meets the eye. Our art of medicine (I mean of healing people) is known for ignoring knowledge they can't understand, or coming from "
primitive"
people. Definition of primitive by Terry Pratchett - "
wearing less clothes than you"
. The "
modern"
herb knowledge is still poor. Besides, i think it is now widely accepted that that your mood has big impact on your physical health, too. That's why they use placebo trick.
It goes a bit farther. A sportsman hearing the "
start"
sound automatically reacts with an adrenaline rush, but it quickly ends once he realises there's no race. It is possible to prolong such state, and stilmulate "
hormon"
(not sure if this word exists in EN) by sheer will.
Hypnosis is a fact, but it still needs to be taken with a grain of salt. It is proven that humans have tendency to fantasize, and are susceptible to suggestions. There was a cool experiment on discovery where several people going on safari (i think) were shown a wrecked car, several meters of yellow police tape around it and a guard next to it. It was all in the middle of nowhere, and they didn't receive any explaination. And it was all fake.
Then after 2 years they were questioned about that car wreckage. The people said many things, "
facts"
that didn't occur, often contradicting themselves. Human memory is far from perfect, and the brain tends to assume too much, ocassionaly. (see checker-shadow illusion I posted in fun images topic, it's unbelievable but it's true).
People under hypnosis effect sure behave strange, but the danger is they are vulnerable to suggestions, and, for instance, if asked to tell about something they supposedly know nothing about... are like to forge ideas just as in car wreckage experiment.
