Hello,

i am sorry if this was asked before -- i was not able to dig anything up. I wonder if it would be an option for Caravel to offer the Mac OS X version of DROD through the Mac App Store?

I don't know how much work would that mean (I guess a lot, I think Apple is picky about submitting Apps to their stores), but it would give the games more visibility.

I honestly don't think they're that picky about it. The stingers are basically that:

- It'd have to be rebuilt to work on Lion
- It'd have to have the App Store receipt validation code added into the program, meaning that the App Store version couldn't be open sourced
- Apple take a fairly big cut of the sales
- Unless your app gets featured, which is unlikely for something as niche as DROD, it doesn't get that much attention anyway

IIRC, Caravel is legally required to keep DROD open-source due to the legal agreement by which Webfoot gave them the rights to further develop DROD.

Shouldn't it be possible to handle that part the same way that the CaravelNet code is handled, i.e. keep it private?

It's not essential to the game in any way, and if someone else were to make a version for the app store they'd have to enter into a contract with Apple first anyway - and then they could either add the code themselves or ask Caravel for it...

The code on it's own without a contract with Apple won't do any good anyway.
