Hello

I have read the architecture guidelines on this forum as well as the Help files in TCB.

Are there in existence any basic trouble-shooting links?

I have a level where I have completed all rooms but the blue level clear gate won't drop.

I am playing the actual hold, not from the 'testing' in the editor.

I checked the stair settings, and they are linked correctly to the 2nd level.

I checked that the appropriate rooms are checked as 'required'.

Thank you for any tips.

Vye

Some ideas:

1. A blue door opens if you have conquered all the required rooms on the level. Do you, by any chance, have a required room after your blue door? Or an inaccessible required room? If so, uncheck the required box, and that'll fix it.

2. In TCB, it is possible to have regular blue doors and blue sister doors. Regular blue doors open when you have conquered all the required rooms on the level. Sister blue doors start out open and close when you have conquered all the required rooms on the level. Did you accidentally use a blue sister door?

3. If you post an Anyone Edit version of your hold here, I can find the problem for you. :)

Oh, you are so kind!

Here it is, but keep in mind it is specifically geared for a 5 yr. old. My son is a DROD-head, but after 8th level in JtRH it was too much.

I made some custom artwork, does that get embedded in the hold or do I need to attach it?

I played some of the first level.

Your blue door in 1W is working properly. After conquering the room, you need to exit the room and re-enter for the blue door to open. This is true of all blue doors, that's just how they work. :)

That must have been the level you were asking about, because the stairs after that blue door ended the hold for me. You'll need to reset their destination.

Also, yes, your artwork is embedded in the hold. Every time you add some, you'll see the file size increase.

The hold has six levels.

I am playing it and I am up to the 3rd level...?

Hmmmm

BTW, how would I insert a 'sister' blue level gate?

Yes, I see that in the editor. But, in the hold you posted, the stairs in Level 01 1W really do end the hold.

I quickly played the 3rd level in the editor, and didn't find a problem with the blue door there either. Maybe you could tell me specifically which blue door won't open for you? Or are we even playing the same hold?

BTW, how would I insert a 'sister' blue level gate?
Add open blue door in the editor, instead of closed blue door.

My special HA tools tell me that there are no differences in blue doors, stair destinations, or required/secret room status from the previous version you posted.

It's possible that the Level 01 stair destination got unset in an edit after you already played that level. In any case, you still need to reset the destination of those stairs.

I'm not really sure how to help you with your blue door question. Perhaps you could tell me specifically what blue door you're having trouble with?

The blue door drops for me in the first level, and I can continue through the entire game.

I am not sure how that corrected itself, because I failed at least 4 times before.

Now I am concerned because you said the hold ends for you at the first level.

Could I be exporting it incorrectly?

I am in the Hold Management screen and I export from there, then attach it to my e-mail...

Nothing's wrong with the way you export the hold. If you want people here to be able to play your hold past the first level, you'll simply need to reset the stair destination. Just click on those stairs and select the Level 02 level entrance again. Then re-export.

On the other hand, it seems to work on your computer. So if all you want is for your son to be able to play the hold, you're fine.

Hi

Thank you for replying.

I have changed the first level stairs to go on to the 2nd level. But this doesn't work on your computer...

It does work on my computer, but I do want to post the hold for the public.

I figure there are lots of DROD fans who have children. :yes

We're going around in circles here.

In the current posted version of your hold, the stairs in Level 01 1W end the hold. Not just for me. For anyone who downloads your hold. You need to reset their destination and reexport the hold. Even if you think you've already done that, you need to do it again. EDIT: Or possibly delete the stairs and then replace them with new stairs to the correct destination to help the change register in the hold file.

A great hold for a five year old.. However, something you may consider is: If your child has gotten up to level 7 of Journey To Rooted Hold, I think he would be able to do more.. Harder puzzles. Yes, even if one is five, it's not like they're totally dumb. Many young children do develop easily. Also, if you say "Well, I helped my child" That's a good thing. You can make a hold were you can help him. Anyway, I played this hold and the level one stairs *do* lead to the end of the hold. Remember to re-export and load the hold up again.

OK, I appreciate your patience. I deleted the stairs on Level 1, added them again. I tested it and they work on my computer.
Attached is the updated hold.
I am sorry for the trouble.

Now the stairs work. :)

It's possible to play all the way through to Level 07, where the player gets stuck because the architect stopped building there. When you're all done building new levels, you should have an end of hold stairs at the end, so the player can conquer and master your hold.

I noticed inaccessible rooms on some levels. Since you've marked them required, they don't affect the playability of the hold. Are you planning on making them accessible in a future version, or did you want to delete them but didn't know how to do that? To delete a room you don't want any more, go to the main editor screen, click on the room in the minimap so it's outlined in orange, and press the delete button on your keyboard.

Thank you for looking at it again, I appreciate it. I have been bit by the building bug. :)

I tried to do this. I clicked on the stairs, chose 'end hold', but it does not end...

Yes, there are rooms I want to delete, but when I click on the mini map and press delete, nothing happens. I sent an e-mail to Caravel support about it. I tried to highlight it in the room itself to delete, and also Command + X. No dice.

Just for extra special redundantly clear clarity, when you want to delete a room, your screen should look like this just before you press the Delete button on your keyboard. (Ctrl-X won't do it, have to use Delete.)

I just tested it on my MacBook, and on a Mac you need to hold down the fn key in conjunction with the delete key for it to work.

Do you mean the Command key? (key with the apple logo on it)

I tried the trusty old Command + Delete key combo and that didn't work either.

No, it's the key that should be in the very bottom left corner, three over from the left command key (this button won't be present on older Mac keyboards).

The bottom left corner is Ctrl, to the right is the Option key, and then the Command key.

I have never heard of the fn key.

I do have function keys along the top, F1, F2, etc.
The keyboard is 4 yrs. old, LOL am I already that far out of date?

Vye,
Does your keyboard have another delete key with a ⌦ symbol at the bottom of the key? If so, that's the one that will work.
(It's the one located directly below the help key.)

Well, since you all are so much help...

I also have not been able to cut and paste the rooms.

I am clicking on the mini map, and typing Command + C, without results.

You'll want to use Control + C as opposed to Command + C. ;)
