Wow, I've been absent a while I see. I didn't have much free time in October, and I doubt I'll have much in November. I haven't even downloaded the template yet. Thankfully, Thanksgiving break is coming up in a couple of weeks. I might be able to make a level then if I don't have any major projects to work on.

Hatkirby Wrote: I'd submit a level, but my levels aren't ever really that good.
Mystic Wrote: Why should that stop you? You never know how good/bad/easy/hard/whatever your level is until you submit it, and other people play it. Input from other players can help a lot.
I have to agree with Mystic here. You never really know how good your level is until you know what other people think about it. Even if you don't think much of a level you make, we might all think it's fun and brilliant. It's like I always say, "an author's worst critic is himself."

Oh, and Radiant, you left the topic ID out of the link :P .

And here's mine, quite literally hot off the press. I just finished it only a few minutes ago.

Interesting concept for this month's contest; I've already got some ideas.

Huh, no template + holiday theme. I've no idea whether I will participate. It depends if I think of something...

You could try what I'm doing: Take an old template, discard the special rules, and make a holiday theme for it.

Or do what I'm doing: pick a classic holiday tale and try to recreate it in SubTerra. ;)

That could work, but I'd have to think of one first. I might just do that.

Just, which one are you doing? I wouldn't want to try the same one...

'kay... I'll consider doing Dickens's A Christmas Carol if I have time (and can think of a good way to do it).

Oh! I completely forgot about this! I was actually planning to make one, but then I got distracted by books, and it never happened.

Is it too late? I don't see any submissions yet...

I know what you mean. Between working at one job, training for another job, and going to various family gatherings, I'm surprised I could keep track of what day it was, let alone work on a level.

The December contest, it would appear, was a bust. I'm going to post what I did anyway, though it's nowhere near complete, and is not a working level by any stretch of the imagination.

I took the April 2009 template, copied it into ST2, and started making a voice-triggered wire puzzle. My so-called "holiday theme" was basically the frustration of having to untangle several strings of lights.

Thank you, Mystic.

So what do people think, should we continue the Variations (or something similar) for the next year, or has it all been done now?

I'm starting to get some of my motivation back, and there may be signs that I'm finally starting to get out of the rut I was in for so long, though I seriously doubt I'll be as prolific as I was before. For the most part, what's lacking for me is time, as I'll be working two jobs until mid-April, and plan on taking a long-overdue vacation shortly thereafter.

The Variations thing is a great concept, but I notice this forum tends to die down dramatically every so often. And there's really no end to the Variations, as long as someone can make a new template, and/or I have something in my "Idea Graveyard" folder that I'm willing to share. The only real limit is everyone's imagination.

I got most of the way though my level but didn't make it in time. The concept was trying to open very well wrapped presents on Christmas day using the decorative, yet very real, explosives on your tree. I'm posting what I have right now (this, of course, is not a complete level). I may or may not finish it, depending on how motivated I feel.

As for the contest, I would like to say that I will participate in the future, but the semester is fixing to start in about a week. I really should keep the distractions to a minimum. I'll participate if I have time. However, I would be willing to create templates and rules for the contest. If I do make a template and rules, I will likely not participate in that particular contest.
