The other night I had an idea that I could create a room where taking a speed potion would render it unbeatable. The room is pretty trivial but demonstrates the point.

This is quite a cool trick. I think it's interesting because the mimic is the only element I know of that also moves at double speed like you do; the impossibility here comes from the fact that the mimic is forced to do something that prevents you simulating normal-speed movement.

I can see some evil mimic/trapdoor/monster manipulation puzzles could come out of this interesting concept.

It's interesting, but I'm not sure I see a way to actually use it in a puzzle besides: "Haha remember that speedpotion all the way back there that you took? Only now that you've cleared half the room will I bother to show you that it was a mistake to take it. Try again." And that's a bit of a one trick pony. But still, it's awesome to see that it can be done.

You need to pick carefully when to use the potions and when not to.
