will often ruin your life, social habits, finance and health. If you're unlucky you could also die or develop serious health problems taking them, especially if the drug happens to be very potent.
Non-potent drugs like tobacco are absolutely harmless.
In addition, drug addicts often resort to crime in order to get enough money to buy more drugs, and are often violent out of desperation caused by withdrawal.
Why should anyone start in the first place?
Alternatively, one can use social contacts garnered through drug addiction to start a successful small business in selling crack to elementary schoolers, eventually moving up to the highly lucrative world of weapon smuggling.
Seriously though, I've spent too much of my life drunk or high or otherwise killing my brain and body. I recommend avoiding all mind-altering substances without darn good reason (be it to fix ADD, make an evening in a hot tub more interesting, a pink floyd concert... or college) because casual drug use can only lead to trouble. But what should be more scary than a life of crime and violence that most middle class drug abusers manage to avoid, is waking up one morning and realizing that you haven't done anything with your life. Sober memories will be much sweeter, believe me.
