You know I always type big posts. Sometimes I take hours on them. I always provide more information than I need to, and it takes me even longer when I revise it and try to figure out which stuff I can omit and what needs to stay in my post.

Well, I typed this big detailed account of the events leading up to the complete corruption of my DROD progress, and when I finally attatched the .dats, I figured it was time for me to send it.

I click Send Message, quickly scroll up, and notice that I put the subject in the Description box. And so I'm like "OH ****!! Let me click back into the message! Come on! Come on! Okay, now CTRL+A CTRL+A CTRL+A CTRL+C CTRL+C COME ON COPY COPY COPY!!!!!!"

And what am I left with? A page with nothing but a notification that my message had no subject, 14 or so expired preview pages in my history, and this in my clipboard:

(1)

Boy, do I wish that "Message had no subject" page had my message in it. Or if it had a "Back to editing message" button. Or if the "Send Message" button on message.php didn't work if any required field was incomplete.

But if I ever want my TCB progress back, it's back to the drafting board, I suppose. And soon, before I forget any really important details.

Suggestion: Use Firefox 3. It remembers your filled in textboxes when you click Back. ;)

Even on Caravel? I thought that was an issue due to the site's setup and how it uses message.php, because definitely don't lose my post when I go Back and Forward on GameFAQs. On Caravelgames, I just get "page has expired and no longer exists". :weep

EDIT on Firefox: Well, I'll be. It even keeps the attatchments. And it works on editing, too.

So wait. You get an 'expired page' in internet explorer when you are trying to resend form information. So why not just refresh, let it resubmit, and you'll have your message back?

A "page has expired" error means the opposite from "data has to be resent".

A page expires if its contents depend on data obtained from the server. For instance, no matter what you're doing with a new post, the page is always message.php, without any variables defined in the url. So when you preview, what I think happens is that the message you sent to the server when you clicked preview is being sent back to you.

The server doesn't keep this data, so you can't obtain it again.

And I guess that, to counter this, Firefox includes all data obtained from the server - not just that which was sent - with the page in history.
So I assume Firefox can go back on the Forum Search, too?

I'm not quite sure what you're talking about. I've just tried what you said in internet explorer, and it did exact what I told you. The data is never being stored on the server; it's stored in your browser.

I write a post with no subject, I hit preview, I hit send, I push back, get a 'Warning - page has expired message', I push refresh, I get my message back.

Well, I must say, I never would've expected a "Resend information?" dialog to come up when I refresh on an expired page. I remember these dialogs coming up when I go Back, meaning if no such dialog came up when navigating back, no such dialog would come up even if you refreshed.

Hmm, maybe I should try out people's suggestions first before I shoot them down. Sounds like a good New Year's resolution destined to fail, though.

Well, the 'Page has expired' message says:
To resubmit your information and view this Web page, click the Refresh button.

;)

Then again, who reads error messages.

Oops, I turned off "Show Friendly HTTP error messages" long ago because I used to think that was making it do those stupid myway.search things whenever I typed a url incorrectly.

For me, it just said "Error: Page has expired." But now it says all that other stuff since I turned it back on.

Now if I could only find a way to get back to that thing I was typing. I foolishly went back through all the preview pages before posting here, so they're no longer in my Back history.

Edit: Nor are they in my History panel.
Edit: Nor are they even in Temporary Internet Files. Come on!

I've never had any hassles with Firefox, but if you want to use IE, you're of course free to do so. :)
