Thanks, done that part, but didn't get much further. Well, actually, I almost finished the room, but realized I did something else wrong in the 3-roach area in the southeast.

This happens to have been what I've done every time I've tested this room, so I didn't notice (or expect) anything wrong.


First, I'm thinking that the whole idea of having to avoid the golems moving wasn't too good, since the player has no knowledge of this the first time through and will not find out until a significant time later.

Second, I now find that being able to do this also depends on movement order as well as something equally arbitrary (the chance of whether the player steps past both rows at once) - and this is not something that adds to frustration, not to the puzzle.

...I can solve both by changing the shapes of the two islands.

I'm now uploading the file with the changes to 1N3W and 2E as discussed:

2E: added a roach that will trap itself if you go south through the central chambers unless you enter the southern area via the eastern force arrow first. Since the roach kills itself on a hot tile, this shouldn't break any demos.

1N3W: rearranged NW island, the golem island, and the island just west of the SE island. I made the island with the rattlesnake and adder smaller (since before, you couldn't use the southern portion of the island anyways or the golems would come up against the speed potion) as well as adding a second checkpoint; I also added a gate to the western island with two rattlesnakes in order to decrease the chance that they would be trapped in a position to render the island inaccessible (the gates open when you step onto the island from either direction).

No, it's not - thank you. :)

I've now added a gate so that the third roach can't move west, and for extra insurance I added a couple of roaches on the island with two goblins on it (thus requiring a speed potion for that island as well).

I also slightly modified the scroll in 1N1E, since the hint is fairly irrelevant unless you're doing the original intended solution. (I also realized I had forgotten my intention to reduce the amount of pit available on the eastern side, but I suppose it'll be fine).
