icon Python (0)
The python is mostly the same as a normal serpent. However, it does not kill in the conventional fashion. Rather than use its fangs, it will attempt to completely encircle Beethro at one-square distance. Then, in one move, it shortens its coils and Beethro is trapped. NOTE: this does not kill him. Beethro can then only move where the python takes him. Being crushed, he cannot move his sword, but it will be protruding over the coils and can still kill monsters, though at this point no other monsters can get him. The python can still act normally, and if it comes around again, it will grab and kill Beethro, who is helpless to run away. NOTE: it wil not kill unless Beethro is trapped. The only way Beethro can get out is if the python runs into a dead end of its own accord. Then it starts to shrink normally, and takes 8 moves before Beethro is completely free. Each move opens up the possibility of moving to one square (the coils disappear in that direction, then in the others. The python then shrinks normally.

I don't really get what you are saying here. If the coils take up one square, how can Beethro kill anything if his sword doesn't reach across? (Beethro's sword can't reach across a one square gap). Also, if he can't move his sword, then how can he kill monsters? Monsters so far don't impale themselves on his sword.

Trying to encircle Beethro at one-square distance would be to easy to avoid. Perhaps if it moved two squares each turn.

Also, how would the one square ring shrink? If the tail and head don't move as the body contracts, then you've got a permanently shorter serpent. And what if there are obstacles with Beethro in the encircling?

I think this is too complicated. How about having the python simply swallow Beethro, who then has his sword sticking out the python's mouth. Next spawn cycle he gets swallowed and killed, unless the python gets trapped or a monster reaches Beethro, in which case the python will spit Beethro out at the start of the next turn.

What do you mean by "or a monster reaches Beethro"?

I just realised that the python can't spit Beethro out if it gets trapped. So it just won't swallow.

What I mean by 'if a monster reaches Beethro' is if a monster bumps into the head. So instead of chasing Beethro the monsters will chase the head of the python (which contains Beethro).

I think the best part would be having to get Beethro in the right sword position, which will stick out of the mouth and still impale monsters.

Ee www...

Imagine what Beethro will look like afterwards, covered in snake saliva and possibly partly digested if the enzymes in its mouth can digest things on Beethro.

Disgusting! :yucky

Well, the python could have hygenic saliva. ;)

That's really why I wanted to make it so Beethro is trapped in its coils.

Possibly a fun addition: Beethro is invincible to other monsters when in the python, and he can direct the movement of the python with his sword. It only works in the cardinal directions. He will be digested/swallowed after one round, but if he traps the python and there is a diagonal escape route, he can move there. The python must be shrinking for this to happen.

Do you think that 30 turns might be too short? It could be very difficult within 30 turns to kill whatever you want and then lead it into a dead end before time runs out.

Why stop at the mouth? Have Beethro march through the python's entire digestive tract and out the, uh, opposite end.

You want a reason why not? Here's a reason why not:

[sarcasm]
Because there are little children here, and we can expose them to violent death and a baddie that lies about being good, but we can't expose them to elementary facts of nature such as other animals besides humans have digestive tracts too.
[/sarcasm]

Ok, no offence to The_Red_Hawk but that proves it. He can't spot sarcasm even with the appropriate forum tags:lol.

On a lighter note the reason why we can't use the "all-the-way-though" idea is that it makes Beethro invincible while he's in the critter, but he wouldn't be able to get out even if the python was trapped unless there thing that's blocking the serpent has a diagonal exit. :sly Saaaaay....

I meant that the digestive tract idea ws funny.

...and I think a lot of things are funny, just not your type of humour, that's all.
