Thanks, I've reproduced that. The cause is that the game is incorrectly detecting your screen as using 16-bit color (you're probably running on 32-bit color). As a temporary workaround, set your screen to 16-bit. Of course, I'll have this fixed by the next release.

Yes, 32 bits color.

Thank you for your work. I played this game a year ago. One of of the best games for two players (splitscreen mode). But "freezes" (sory for my English) happen quite often. The only way to continue is the game is to make a different move by several units.

I've encountered a bug that makes frostbite not go away in deserts.
It does seem to stop the frostbite from killing you, but I'm not sure.

I would upload the save, but for some reason I cant find where they're kept...

Any ideas?

If an enemy city, cast Major Cancellation on it.

If your own city, use the same procedure as removing buildings (open city, click options, click the spell name).

First, you need to capture the enemy town with one of your militant units. This will send it into Disorder for three turns, after which time you can destroy it. Then, to actually destroy the town, you need to move in one militant unit per 3000 population (for example, if the town has 9000 people, you need a minimum of 3 militant units); once you've done that, bring up the town's info screen and click "Options," followed by "Destroy." Congratulations, there's one less town in the game!

Alternately, if you have the third-level Body spell Earthquake, you can cast it repeatedly at a town to destroy it. I find this method to be very efficient, if extremely mana-heavy.

Thanks, I forgot that part. How I could forget I don't know, especially since I had "open talk of rebellion" in my capital city for a few turns after destroying a few enemy towns. Good thing I built a Peace Monolith starting the following turn, and had a good supply of gold for festivals.

Your saved game files should be somewhere in your Leylines folder, or one of its subfolders. If they're not there, try searching your computer for files containing ".ley" (the Leylines saved game extension).

Are you running vista? It's possible that the game has insufficient rights to create saved games.

In general, vista is extremely paranoid when saving files--or doing anything, for that matter--in the Program Files folder. If you're using vista, you may want to create a "Game Files" folder in the root directory, and move your games there, just to avoid any headaches; I originally did this with Win98 (and later, WinXP) so I could tell what was a game and what wasn't. I guess it's a good thing I continued this habit with vista.

Also if you're using vista, try searching non-indexed locations; by default, vista only searches locations that are indexed. Another thing you could try is to include hidden & system files in your search. Both of these options will increase your search time, but will (usually) produce better results.

1) Black screen on game exit (always)
2) Please, add end turn autosaves
3) Repeat spell flag works incorrectly. It should cast spell several time (I have 70 mana, spell costs 30), but every turn the spell is casted only once.

2.) The game should be autosaving at the end of turns. Mine show up correctly.

3.) I believe it is working as intended; it will cast the spell once per turn. Certain spells you don't want cast multiple times in a turn, and those you can, you can always hotkey them. :)

autosave - at the start of current turn
autosave2 - at the start of previous turn
perfect variant is:
+ autosave_end
+ autosave_end2

3.) I believe it is working as intended; it will cast the spell once per turn
Repeat once per turn is not "repeat" in general sence. Summon dead or revelation or smth else - everything requires many mouse clicks while it could be all automatic.

Also I'd suggest to inform the player if someone comes close to his towns. Because all that player can see is the message "the town was captured by ...". What??? Where??? How could it be? :)

P.S Humans are really cool. The Arcane Mages are awesome.

This can be solved rather easily, by being a little more vigilant at the end of each turn. :P There are buildings that allow you to detect hidden and/or invisible enemy units near your cities; units with magesight/detection skill are also useful in this regard.

I'm not sure what you mean. Normally, you click the 'done' button to leave a battle screen. Is the game hanging somewhere? If so, can you send me a saved game?

(1) Again, I'm not sure what you mean. Is the game hanging when you quit? If so, please tell us your system specs.

(2) As Danjen points out, the game autosaves at the start of each turn, which should for all practical purposes be the same as the end of the previous turn. Is there any particular reason why you feel this is necessary?

(3) This is by design: the spell is cast once per turn. You can use the spell hotkeys if you want to cast it more often.

BerserkerX wrote:

You can generally see that on the automap. On the other hand, it is possible that your opponent is employing stealthed or invisible units. Or, for that matter, teleporting. You are defending your towns with units, I trust?

I'm afraid I'm missing your context here. Which saved games, and which crash, and why is this related to Danjen's remark that his autosaves are showing up?

I'm not sure what you mean. Normally, you click the 'done' button to leave a battle screen.
When I click "done" any unit just pass his turn. I cannoy exit the screen until battle ends.

1) Again, I'm not sure what you mean. Is the game hanging when you quit? If so, please tell us your system specs.
Yes, the screen is black and game hangs.
1024*768, 32bits, GeForce 7300 GT
Windows XP Professional Edition, Service Pack 2

(2) As Danjen points out, the game autosaves at the start of each turn
Option "Raiders move separately" is on.
So I have [start of turn, battles with raiders (if they attack)] [different actions including battles] [end of turn]
Currently I have to save game before pressing "end turn" :( You know, replaying turn from scratch is a bit boring thing (and such cases occur rather often).

You can generally see that on the automap
When the map is huge it's quite difficult. In split screen mode I cannot access mini-map at all. Solution is to keep towns guarded :)

You are defending your towns with units, I trust?
Sure thing. But my human towns are guarded by swordmen, while captured ones are protected by summoned skeletons, which stay out of the city camped. And AI often sends units, which ignore camped skeletons and just enter cities.

P.S
The game is excelent indeed. Good replacement for Colonization.
P.S.S
Correct me if I write something wrong. English is not my native language :(

Yes, that is intentional: the player is expected to fight the battle.

Yes, the screen is black and game hangs.
I'll see what I can do about that. Could you check if it still happens if you turn music off?

Currently I have to save game before pressing "end turn" :( You know, replaying turn from scratch is a bit boring thing (and such cases occur rather often).
Do you mean that the game crashes often, requiring you to replay a turn? Or do you have some other reason for having to replay turns from scratch?

Solution is to keep towns guarded :)
Or cast the Chaos spell, Chimeric Horde.

And AI often sends units, which ignore camped skeletons and just enter cities.
I'm glad to hear the AI is doing his job :D

Yes, that is intentional: the player is expected to fight the battle.
But I wonna load end of turn/start of turn savegame (or at least return to main menu) and make another move. For example, ArcMages can strike enemy remotely with lightning spell. But 6 halberdiers appear from the darkness and attack my mages, I lose 3 of them.
And regardless the intention I save the game at the end of turn and can thus replay any battle (when we play hotsit replays arent't neccessary).

Could you check if it still happens if you turn music off?
Unfortunately it does.

Or do you have some other reason for having to replay turns from scratch?
Many reasons:
1) Enemy attacks my heroes and defeat them.
2) Enemy captured town, I just didn't notice enemy troops near town.
3) Oops! Some town produced pioner, i.e I've forgotten to select new building to construct.
so on and so on and so on.

So I load "end of turn savegame", attack enemy with skeletons, choose building or spell etc.

I'm glad to hear the AI is doing his job
It does its best :thumbsup

Sorry about that, I'm not the best at communicating. To clarify:

The saved games I was talking about were originally posted in the "Leylines wiki" thread as a zip file; I'm reposting it here so you don't have to hunt for it. The zip contains two saved games in different folders. The game in the folder named "Elves" is from the Leylines beta dated November 30, 2007; the game in the folder named "Theria" is from the most recent version. The relation to Danjen's remark is that I'd forgotten to mention that's where those saved games crash; it's sometime after ending the turn and approximately just before it autosaves before starting the next turn.

As to what Danjen said about his autosaves showing up, that actually has nothing to do with anything; I probably wasn't thinking straight at the moment, and apparently quoted a little too much text. :blush I guess I shouldn't post when I'm tired.

Battle Bug.
http://www.multiupload.com/QNY11H4K04

Enemy attacks my town guarded by 6 himers. At battle start 5 of 6 of them become almost dead without any reason, after any action they turn to other creatures and player is proposed to wait for the other Wizard, and this lasts for ever.

It's the second time I face this bug.
Load save game, press "end turn".
Thanx.

I found an odd bug, but due to its nature, I can't give much info.
I was playing as regency just now, and at the beginning of a turn it tells me that the locals just lynched a Colonist of mine.
However, I didn't have any Colonists at the time...
