I don't know if someone posted this before, but I think that 1.7 should have several types of supermonsters. Perhaps there could be a limit of 1 per level, but they would be extremely difficult to kill. I have a couple of ideas for it.

1. a Dragon - can breathe fire and flies
2. a Giant Toad - can spit at you over floors and pits, can maybe jump a distance of 5 squares, and, if close enough, cough extend its mouth over about 5 squares instantly, and Beethro might get swallowed.
3. perhaps just huge versions of the current monsters.

These would occupy maybe a 10x10 space and could not go through small passages. I'll leave you to decide how they can be killed.

Also, I think a monster that would eat Beethro and spit him up somewhere else might be nice - or Beethro might have to cut his way out - maybe it could be a whale.

Also.....it would be nice to be able to have a "Water" element as an obstacle. Can Beethro swim?

You're going to have to be much more specific with these for me to be able to comment. I don't think I like the idea right now, as presented.

There is a water element being added, I'm pretty sure, called The Flow. It's basically for timing, but nothing can survive from Dugan's in it, including Beethro.

You need to propose how to kill the supermonsters, and specifics of what they can do.

I think the tunnel system that people are installing is pretty good for "spitting out somewhere else" right now. If it was something like "Spits out five squares away in the direction you entered" that would be different, and cool. In fact...I think that would be really cool.

This idea gives me another: perhaps 1.7 could have the monsters from the Construct the Story thread. There would be supergoblins, Triclops, skeletons, werewolves, trolls, monkeys, dart throwers, etc. Just a thought.

Maybe to kill them you need to drink a special potion that goes with the monster. Maybe this would let you shoot one laser or something that would destroy anything in its path. This potion could probably work on its own too. I think it would be pretty good, actually, even without using it for supermonsters.....

Anyone else have suggestions?

Perhaps it would be better as some sort of magic bolt, rather than a laser, which sounds rather unDRODish.

Perhaps anything in its path except for walls. The edges of the screen would be gone. And puzzles with green doors, red doors, blue doors, yellow doors...I think there are too many things that would be forced to stay for the potion/magic bolt (Which doesn't sound DRODish to me either :P ) to be good.

I don't like the idea of supermonsters. It feels like "crew bosses" to me, which fit better with an arcade/beat-em-up or something, where the stamina and speed of the opponents is an issue.

But DROD is a puzzle game. Difficulty doesn't arise from single nearly indestructible creatures but from the way the rooms are constructed. In that sense calling something a "supermonster" feels to me weak.

With the exception of the Neather, of course, but *its* concept was different than the one described above.
