Just wondering how people who have been here longer than me feel: should demos be left attached or removed from an H&S reply after the person who requested that demo has downloaded it? I've generally always removed them for the two reasons mentioned here, but I won't any longer if that's considered bad forum etiquette. I guess I could make this a poll, but I'm just looking for the general feeling.

I like the way you do it. Having to ask for a demo when I'm really stuck usually shames me into going back and giving the room just one or two or fifty more shots, and usually I end up not needing the demo after all. But if you're shoving a demo in my face, I'll probably look.

I sort of wish people had access to demos BEFORE completing rooms so they wouldn't have to ask for them, but I guess in reality the temptation to view a demo without thinking about finding the solution would be too great.

It's too bad we can't use attachments in PMs. It seems like a bit of hassle to post then remove a demo.

I think that once someone asks for a demo, they should get it. And if one person gets that desperate, it's likely others will, so it should be left up.
Is it just me, or is there a certain stigma in asking for a demo?

I think this should be left up to the person who recorded the demo (which should be the same person posting it, of course). It seems to me that deciding whether you want everyone to be able to view your demo, or just people who specifically ask for it, is a matter of personal preference.

I do think, assuming I'm somewhat typical, that the temptation factor is balanced by the small amount of effort required to view them (you need to download them, then import them, so while hardly difficult, it's not trivial either). I for instance very rarely download a demo if I'm stuck in a room - unless I'm really frustrated - while I'm far more likely to read hints.

I myself prefer to keep the demo's up. After all, if I was the one asking for the demo, surely there's others who would also need it? And then it would save them the embarrassment and hassle of repeating the same process.

I'm glad to know there doesn't seem to be a problem with removing them. I'd hate to think I was committing a forum no-no. However some very good points were made about leaving them attached, so (since I don't really care who watches my demos) from now on I'll just leave them. Temptation be damned! Thanks for the input.

It would be nice if there were an easier way for the player needing the demo to post their own attempts at the room and have those critiqued by people who have solved the room already rather than posting solutions. I don't know what form that would take, but perhaps an enhancement to the in-game chat system could work. You would be taken to the room that they're having trouble with, and you could watch them play the room/view demos that they have recorded etc, then make suggestions for improvement.
