Re: The City Beneath : Holding Vats : 3 South, 2 West... (+2)
Is there a way to lure or force the adder into the tunnel after it is blocked by mud?
[EDIT] Yes... just made it. Room completed *and* challenge completed - hitting the orb before the snake went into the eastern corridor :-)
Click here to view the secret text × The first difficult bit was making sure that none of the roaches nor mud babies went up past the arrows while I was getting out of the western passage. the first time after hitting the orb. I achieved this by letting all the roaches into the big room, plus any mud babies that spawned to the left of the mud as it grew across the corridor, before going round any northern loops. Every so often, the adder chewed up a few of these: and every so often it got stuck in its own coils and shortened again.
Click here to view the secret text ×Having done that, I then killed the mud mother (and all the remaining queens) in the south half of the room, then cleared all mud except a 2x2 square in the main part of the room, level with the entrance to the eastern corridor. The adder was the only living thing left in the big room: plus one queen and a roomful of roaches, and a mud baby or two that had spawned on the east of the mud across the corridor.
Click here to view the secret text × I worked out that I had to get into the eastern passage TWICE via the tunnel tile from the big room. The first time, was to kill all the roaches, the queen and the remaining mud babies, and - importantly - to escape via the side-passage over the trapdoors, through the tunnel that leads to the western passage, all WITHOUT luring the adder into the eastern corridor: and get back out into the main room that way.
Click here to view the secret text ×It didn't matter how long the adder was now: it was the only living thing in the room, apart from the roach blocked in by the black door. The important thing was to manoeuvre it to being a few squares south of me when I went through the eastern tunnel tile a second time, so that I could get up to the east-west corridor while it was still to the south of me, since serpent behaviour defaults to north and east over south and west if you're out of range or unreachable: this made it turn east and point towards me the moment it got up to my row from the south (whereas if I had left it to the north of thecorridor, it might well have turned around and never come far enough south)... and it came into the corridor, chewed straight through the mud, and got its head stuck in the end as I retreated through the diagonal gap, without its being able to turn left over the trapdoors now those had fallen. I was able to kill it, dispose of the rest of the mud and escape at leisure.
