Wow. You need to get out... less.
Basically, a DLL file contains code/info that is frequently used by programs, which simply use its code/info instead of having >=duplicate code/info within their own resources. This often saves space and effort, but sometimes generates more effort due to compatibility issues & whatnot, hence the idea of "DLL hell".
You programmer types feel free to correct me if I'm off at all.
