Hi all,

I have a question. If you sign up for a subscription to Caravel Games, can you download Smitemaster's Selections previously released, that is, before the time you subscribed?

Thanks in advance,

-bovis

Unfortuantly no, you will have to pay seperatly for previous issues.

I suggest you talk to Erik for the offical answer though.

Thanks,

I have some other questions though.

Can two profiles, both on the same computer use the same Caravel key thing?

Can two profiles, each on their own computers use the same Caravel key?

Can't help you with that, but...
Can two profiles, each on their own computers use the same Caravel key?
Not the same key, but you can request (up to) two keys from CaravelNet and use one for each machine.

As soon as you request a third key one of the two gets invalidated, though.

In the options menu in-game there is a button which you can use to request a new key. Keys are sent to your email address.

You can also request a new key from your profile on this forum.

2 separate players on the same PC should purchase 2 separate Caravel.net accounts. This setup works fine (ie each with their own key)...

But it is possible to have two keys for the same account.

If you click on the request new key button twice, will those two be valid?

Logic says yes, and it doesn't hurt to try

I very much doubt it.

Also, if there are 2 different people playing, and you want your own highscores and Caravel.net functionality (ie 2 users), then you should get 2 accounts.

I figured I'd resurrect this thread rather than introduce extra clutter.

With the current Caravel.net model - do you maintain access to any SMS downloads your membership has earned you once your membership has expired? I'm *assuming* yes, as Caravel seems very user-friendly in their business model, but I figure I'd best check just in case.

Yes, my CaravelNet membership is currently not active (I'm going to sign up again when my Internet connection lasts more than 10 minutes at a time, hopefully before TCB comes out), but I can download the SMSs still.

Oh, one other question:
Since the current SMS is still Spring 2006, and it's now Winter of 2006/2007....any further word on when the next SMS will release/compensation for the fall slot being missed also/that sort of thing?

It's not that I'm a Caravel.net subscriber (well, my month from buying JtRH), but I'd like to be...I just don't really have that much interest in features other than the SMS (they're a nice bonus alongside getting the SMS, but not something I would pay $12 for alone.), and I haven't seen any updates on that situation beyond October's Illumination, which is now a bit outdated. Of course, I've also only just signed up a couple of days ago and I'm terrible with forum search functions, so maybe I'm just missing something? :)

(And, if I were to sign up now, would I still be eligible for at least the single SMS credit? 'cause I'd cheerfully do that. I was going to buy at least one credit to nab KDD2.0 anyhow. I want the other SMS eventually but I'm just starting out, so I doubt things like Perfection would do much for me for a while.)

If you get a paid account you get 4 Smitemaster Selections no matter what. Sometimes more if an edition comes with two holds. You will get the latest one, (which is probably Beethro's Teacher) and the next three that come out. If Caravelnet is quite late on one, they will give you one "credit" which will let you pick an earlier edition for free.

Does that answer your question?

Well...no, not really.

I understand the basic idea of how it's meant to work, and the credit that they gave out because they were dropping one SMS in order to work more on The City Beneath, but I was more asking about any information that may have come along since then...as they appear to be two quarters behind now, instead of just one.

And it's still not clear to me if I would get that credit if I ordered a year of Caravel.net right now. But thanks for trying.

I got a year of CaravelNet in fall '06 and after reading up on the credit situation was able to apply it towards an earlier SMS as soon as I tried for it. All I had to do was go to my profile and hit the purchased holds selection and the links were ready for me to pick one to open up.

I don't know if you'd be able to get a credit now though. The idea is that if there's a foul-up requiring cancellation of one of the SMS holds during your subscription, then you get a credit, and this is more Winter/Spring '06/07 than it is Fall '06 (I registered around September/October IIRC) so unless the Winter/Spring 06/07 selection goes bust too you won't get the credit for an older selection (but you would get the SMS that's due out for this quarter).

I expect they will make a winters SMS befor the winter is over. Previous SMS holds have (if I recall correctly) been released quite late in the season.

The next Smitemaster's Selection is very close to release. We are basically just waiting for Sten Ryason to get his Beethro recording in.

Next weekend, I'll give everyone an update on the Smitemaster's Selection situation in the Illumination.

I purchased a year's subscription back in June '06. I never downloaded any Smitemaster's Selections. Now, I can't figure out where to find them? Can someone help me?

P.S. I finished JTRH, including Dreamplane, yesterday, so now I'm ready for more!! ;)

Your current selection of SmS may be a tad dry. I think Beethro's Teacher is the only one released in that time period, and it's freaking hard, even for advanced players.

I'd recommend checking out the Holds board--there are a lot of quality holds there.

I appreciate it! I'm still trying to understand how every thing works. I didn't come to the forum for months, because I was stuck on level 23 in JTRH, then somehow my game was deleted. So, I had to redo everything, but it was much easier the second time through.

I agree with BDR... the forums could/should be an integral part of your DROD experience.

Believe me, the second time around, I used the hints/solutions. My problem was that it was one of those rooms you just had to battle out of, and even with the hints, I couldn't get it!

I'm working on KDD, which seems alot easier, so far, then JTRH. Can't wait for the new one!

P.S. I do have a membership. Quite inexpensive, really.

Sorry to revive this thread.

According to this page, the Summer SS hold is released by September. ;) (someone change it please?)

But I understand people are already talking about the Autumn one, any info about that one?
