You mean a movie that has lots of bells and a trio of bowl-haircut-sporting elephants picking up a uniformed cow in one of their trunks isn't easy to figure out?

Fine, most of the ones that do. I mean, I know that there are a lot of anime fans here but since obscure video games get guessed much faster than obscure animes, I think we know the audience in this particular thread.

Heh. OK, let's try this shot...

If it doesn't get guessed within a few days, I think I might put up a sledgehammer one. I've been purposefully looking for surreal/non-obvious shots. This one *might* be a little clearer, but... well... um... this film's so surreal it's hard to tell.

I hardly think this one qualifies as obscure, though... If anything, I might call it, um... infamous and Lynchian, but... not obscure.

Unless your definition of 'obscure' as applies to anime is 'hasn't run on US television' in which case yup, guilty as charged.

Anime runs on US television when not playing through a DVD? I really had no idea. The only anime I have seen has pretty much been shoved down my throat by friends who wanted to share a little too much. I did enjoy Spirited Away but I think it helped that I was in a big theater without people going "Oh this part's great!" every 5 minutes.

If I see Clayton online I am going to direct him to this thread as I think he might be able to get it, but he's pretty busy with his new nephew I believe.

Yup... there's actually rather a lot of it. Mostly seems to run on Cartoon Network and on Fox and WB's kid's programming blocks. I think G4 used to run some as well, but I'm not sure these days.

Not that I watch anything that's being run on TV as I'm not exactly fond of dubs. I like my subtitles ^^

Then count me out on this; I just don't stealdownload anime and I like my spoken dialogue to be English...

Then again, I have bought the German disc of Hellsing Ultimate (with, again, a masterfully crappy German dub, which I really should've known...) where the US disc is scheduled for December - but if they use the same dub actors the tv series used I guess I'll have to buy it again...

Um... Briareos? A lot of that stuff in your DVD collection that you posted a link to hasn't run on TV in the US...

And this isn't something I downloaded. I'm pulling screencaps off my legitimate R1 DVD of this (which does have a dub audio track, though I'm never gonna listen to it most likely )

It just hasn't run on TV is all. I think most networks would have, um... issues with this one. Probably the same applies to the TV series version.

I agree. Also perhaps something less trivial... say a shot of something that has been in released in half the global continets. I don't think the idea is to bring the thread to its knees. It should be more of a quick-fire topic.

It's always easy to do a very hard one. It's also easy to do an easy one. It is much harder to do one that is a challenge but is still possible. Play to your audience...with 17 pages we know by now what people are best at. Or see if you can stump people with a very well known game, but an extremely obscure screenshot. It's hard to get one of these online though.

Personally, I think it would make the most sense to have a thread dedicated to video game screenshots, and one to movie/tv screenshots. But it's Ezlo's thread so I'll let him decide what he prefers. We wouldn't split this thread up at all, just start a new one if that's what people want.

:grumbles at attempts at getting a screenshot and gives up: Well, there's a lesson learned... MacOS doesn't like to try and take screen grabs of anything by ABA Games...

Wow, um... someone else modded Briareos up...

Yup, that's the game!

Interesting factoid: While the US never got Twinbee Rainbow Bell Adventure (or any Twinbee games, actually, besides the second NES one, which we got as 'Stinger'), Europe did, albeit in a somewhat crippled version. The level structure is strictly linear in the European version, uses a password rather than battery backup, and has less levels than the Japanese version, which has branching paths.
