I have no idea about old westerns, so I'll just go out on a huge limb and say "The Good the Bad and The Ugly"? I'm not even sure if that's a movie, or a western, but it sounds right.

Rats, now I have to play it again and it's not like it ever worked under Windows. Don't even have the file now, it was called arena256 or something... my brother and me would spend hours each day in the arena. The game had a lot of bugs, it sometimes randomly crashed, and there were some unbeatable combos with the randomized spells sometimes... but the gameplay was awesome!
